Taipei, Feb. 14 (CNA) A 69-year-old man was shot dead by his friend during a pig hunt in northern Taiwan's Miaoli County after being misidentified as a boar, police said Saturday.
The man, surnamed Chen, was with three friends in the evening of Feb. 13 on a monthly hunting trip in the woods, according to the police.
Chen fell behind the team because his headlight was broken, his friends said, who then spread out to look for pigs.
One of Chen's friends later sensed some movement in nearby bushes and shot an object he believed to be a boar, but it turned out to be Chen.
Chen's friends were taken into custody, the police said, adding that the weapon used in the killing was not a legitimate hunting weapon.
