SINGAPORE — A 54-year-old man believed to be responsible for counterfeit casino chips in Singapore has been arrested.

The alleged syndicate leader, a Singaporean, was arrested in Malaysia yesterday (Dec 31) with the assistance of the Royal Malaysia Police and Macau Judiciary Police and handed over to Singapore police today.

In a statement to the media today, the Singapore police said officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch (CCIB) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) started investigating a case of suspected counterfeit chips used at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino in end-November.

To date, a total of 19 suspects have been charged in court for their suspected involvement in a syndicate for possession and the use of counterfeit MBS casino chips.

The police have also seized counterfeit casino chips worth more than S$1 million, mobile phones and cash.

The suspect will be charged in court tomorrow for the offence of possession and using counterfeit casino chips under the Casino Control Act. If convicted, he may be jailed for up to seven years and/or fined up to S$150,000.

Sometimes you win, sometimes the banker wins. Cannot be everyone's a winner otherwise who is going to pay for the free buffet? Too much Mainland smog clouding up your mind, eh?
