How is your experience with MCE?

How long before PAP/LTA/Transport Minister start to blame Singaporeans for it for

1) Purposely using the MCE because its new

2) Unnecessary travel on MCE

3) Not heeding their advice to avoid MCE using peak hours

No need for all the above lah. Just implement a S$15 ERP per entry will resolve all the problems and also the PAPies can have a much higher bonus come end 2014. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

5 lanes MCE becomes 2 lanes filter to ECP... what an engineering feat!

May I ask what happens if there is an accident somewhere along that 2 lanes ECP exit?

PAP/LTA latest solution to MCE jam :

MCE opening: Avoid using the expressway if you are heading east during the evening peak

The newly-opened Marina Coastal Expressway's acronym may well stand for "Messy Confusing Expressway".

On the first work day since the $4.3 billion undersea highway opened on Sunday, motorists found themselves caught in traffic snarls of a scale uncommon in Singapore.

Tweets and Facebook posts flew fast and furious, with one taxi commuter complaining that she had to fork out $60 in fare because of the jam - for a journey that usually cost her $16.

When The Straits Times checked during lunch time Monday, traffic flow was smooth in the north-south stretch, where the MCE joins the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway.

But there were obvious problem areas where it joined the East Coast Parkway (ECP) and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).

Motorists on the ECP heading for the AYE have to negotiate a sharp left to enter the MCE. This caused many to apply their brakes or slow down, causing a minor queue to form there.

Traffic signs at the entrance may have contributed to the problem. A sign above one lane read "MCE to AYE", while the another in the adjacent lane read "MCE to Central Boulevard". This caused more weaving and braking.

Eastbound, traffic slowed to a trickle at the Fort Road exit. Most of the vehicles in the MCE in this section seem headed for the exit, which has only two lanes (out of the total five).

One lane leads directly to Fort Road, which had a queue stretching all the way into the tunnel. The other lane leads to Changi. Clearly inadequate in coping with the noon-time traffic volume, the exit caused a jam that spread to two other lanes of the MCE leading to the KPE.

Motorists heading for the ECP via the MCE after work this evening should brace themselves for a repeat of Monday morning's saga. They may want to find alternatives (such as the Pan-Island Expressway), or travel later.

Just came out from KPE, via the MCE.
Very heavy traffic at the MCE towards ECP lead-in. And it is only around 3.45pm.
Can't imagine once it hit 5.30pm to 6.30pn. I am sure the whole MCE will be jammed right back to AYE.

As usual, there is already a big ERP gantry going towards the MCE from AYE.
Just a matter of time.........

Here my own experience in MCE and predict major problem will happen.
Pro
1. Journey shorter for those travel from AYE<>ECP may about 1KM distance
2. No more Windy road on the Benjamin Bridge

Con.
1. It will be massive traffic jam because only 2 lane joining MCE and ECP both way. Will cause carbon monoxide to built up(just open the car window you will low oxygen).
2. Both exit for ECP/Fort roadn Boulevard massive jam.

What will happen case study!!!!
1. Traffic jam for all exit will be jam no way to solve it because is only 2 lane(Before ECP joining AYE 4 lane) that half traffic flow reduce
2. If accident it will be panic because now inside the tunnel full of carbon monoxide. Air doesn't get pump in and out like CTE tunnel.
3. LTA design the tunnel exit and entry for are really damn stupid from previous 4 lane/5lane joining AYE<>ECP to stupid 2 lane .

Looks like the traffic is pretty bad the whole day. Lucky today took PIE and miss this MCE. I guess tomorrow better take PIE again.

Not a good thing if you want a casual scenic drive through the Marina Bay area.

Sinkies rush and rush from the cradle to the grave, from deadline to deadline, from location to location.

Slow down and relax.

agrees.i prefer to drive pass mbs..look at the 3 joss sticks instead of the tunnel

Don't think LTA factor in accidents and road works in their calculations!! To them they don't exists!!

carbon monoxide no worries.
carbon monoxide sensors gas are interlock to giant exhaust fans that ducted all the way out to the atmosphere.
air pump in..no worries.
giant fresh air fans are operate 24hrs a day (lower speed at nite ) to supply oxygen for your car combustion and for human to breath.

Remember the movie Daylight which stars Sylvester Stallone in which it shows how cars are trapped in the NY city tunnels and then explosions caused a fireball inside the tunnel, under the sea. Wonder if that can happen here!!
