That is not true. I attended several rallies but ultimately voted for the PAP.

Ong Swee Tian's calculation is really simple:

He never considered these:

1. He somehow missed out the 139,777 voters in Tanjong Pager who did not vote in 2011 but voted this time. He conveniently forgot to subtract this very large number. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singaporean_general_election,_2011

2. Number of true blue Singaporeans allowed to vote is NOT EQUAL to the current birth rate. It should be birth from 1991 to 1994. See table below. Total around 198,000 and not 120,000.

3. He has to add the number of deaths ( I cannot get the exact figures), but should be around 18,000 20,000 per year.
Source : http://www.singstat.gov.sg/statistics/visualising-data/charts/number-of-births-and-deaths

4. Number migrated overseas. Around 1200 yearly. Source: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/sin...poreans-citizenship-yearly-dpm-091548225.html

After considering 1 to 4 above, the New citizen numbers should be 144,481 and NOT 402,000!!

However my numbers still no good as I did not have the number

- for people who passed away in TP GRC (which is a double count).
- for new citizens who passed away from 2011 to 2014
- we are assuming that ALL new citizenship vote for PAP.

It's just basic statistics. Sampling is really this accurate and statisticians have known this for centuries.

Only sampling done by Sinkapore's Elections Department is that accurate. All the global polling companies should seek their expertise.

The cut off date for new voters was Feb 1994. This means the majority of those born in 1994 were ineligible to vote in 2015.

Opposition supporters here must face the truth. pap didn't just win, it totally crushed the alternative parties. The number of new citizens cannot have done such a big swing. Middle voters preferred pap. Face the fact, only then can alternate parties learn from their mistake and come with better strategy to convince the voters next GE.

the fact that there were 2.4m votes casted in 2015, how do you account for the difference of 400k between 2011 and 2015? that 400k number has to cum from constituencies that were walk-overs in 2011 plus net increase in new voters (subtract deaths and those who emigrated and gave up sg citizenship), which include those born and bred before 1994 and newly minted shitizens from the adult foreign population by means of naturalization which are trending 20k a year since 2008. roughly cums up to 400k.

The numbers are presented including the sources and you still insist 400k.

Ok up.to you. Is all 400k. Go live in your own world.

Learn from mistakes? How is it its their mistakes?
They should all quit and spend their time doing useful things instead of fighting for a lost cause for 70%. Sorry to the 30% you die your business.
Face it that they can't win. Time to hand over the cuntry to pap and its 70%.....it might sound defeatist but it's really time to cut losses.

Only sampling done by Sinkapore's Elections Department is that accurate. All the global polling companies should seek their expertise.

Don't mix up the different kinds of sampling done. If those global polling companies can sample the actual votes, their results will also be the same as ELD. The logistics and methods for this is so trivial.

Those global companies don't get to sample actual votes though, for the simple reason that they don't get access to the actual votes. They mostly do pre-election polling and exit pollings.

Exit pollings has generally been VERY accurate, almost as good as the vote samples. And the best part of it is it provides more information, like the demographics breakdown of which age group / race / gender / etc voted for which candidate. The inaccuracies generally come from people who lie about who they voted for. There's quite some logistics requirement to perform the exit polling, but the method of choosing samples well is fairly simple. In fact many countries depend on exit polls instead of vote samples to provide the public with an early indication of the results and to sanity check the final results.

Pre-election polling, however, is very hard to get right. People change their minds a lot, people lie about who they are going to vote for, and the logistics is immense. Sampling properly is also fairly hard. Still, they get it right more often than not with their decades of experience. And of course, Nate Silver.

Indeed. One forummer majojohn who appeared just before the elections claiming to have done sample polls have all but disappeared into the ether.
