GUESS what's the hottest 2010 calendar in Thailand?
It is Leo beer's saucy calendar featuring nude models whose body is painted to cover their assets.
And the calendar, produced by Leo which is a low-end alcoholic beverage manufactured by Singha Corporation, has attracted controversy.
According to the Thai Public Health Ministry, it might have contravened Section 32 of the Alcohol Beverage Control Act 2008 which prohibits the advertising of alcohol drinks, their brands and trademarks in a way that encourages consumption, directly or indirectly.
Feminist groups are also up in arms against the calendar which they called "Nude Calendar", "Sin Calendar" and "Lust Calendar".
"Many brewers exploit women as sex objects for the sake of their business," foundation manager Chadet Chaowilai told The Nation newspaper, "such negative tendencies have contributed to the problem of sexual violence against women."
