The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong stated that there was no evidence that the patient's infection was related to the laboratory.
The epidemic in Hong Kong has rebounded. After only three cases were recorded the day before, 13 new cases were added yesterday, of which three were of unknown origin. The cumulative number of confirmed cases exceeded the five thousand mark. The new cases include a laboratory researcher at the School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong who has processed inactivated samples of the new crown virus. The Centre for Health Protection and the School of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong have no evidence that the case is related to the laboratory, and experts believe that the patient may be infected in the community Larger.
Yesterday, 13 confirmed cases were recorded, including four local infections and nine imported cases. The total number of cases in Hong Kong has increased to 5,010. Of the four local cases, three are of unknown origin, and one is related to an earlier confirmed case. In the case of unknown origin, a 28-year-old female patient living in Sai Ying Pun worked in the laboratory on the sixth floor of the School of Public Health of the University of Hong Kong, mainly responsible for contacting inactivated samples of the new coronavirus, performing genetic sequencing, and inputting the analysis results computer.
The female patient had eaten with friends during the incubation period, and her colleagues, friends and family who ate with her were listed as close contacts and required quarantine; and a staff member who shared a computer with her was sent to the hospital for isolation and quarantine. After repeated inspections, they will be negative and sent to the quarantine center.
Undocumented laboratory source or community infection
Zhang Zhujun, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Center for Health Protection, revealed that the staff of the laboratory will be tested for the virus every Thursday. The test result was still negative on the 10th of this month, and it was only positive until last Thursday (17th). After understanding the work conditions and procedures of the laboratory, the department and experts believe that there is no evidence that the laboratory has sourced it, and it cannot be ruled out that the patient was infected in the community.
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong responded that the staff member wore a mask during work and had no contact with infectious samples during the past 14 days at work. There is no evidence that the incident is related to the laboratory; the hospital has arranged for the staff member The team members working together were tested and all tested negative.
Three cases of unknown origin, nine overseas import cases
Respiratory specialist Liang Zichao explained that inactivated virus samples are usually added with chemicals or high temperature to eliminate the virus's activity and make it non-infectious. Before the patient came into contact with the virus sample, the sample had gone through the inactivation process, and it seemed that the infection was not caused by handling the sample. In addition, since no new cases have been found in the regular testing by colleagues, it is believed that the patient is more likely to be infected in the community.
The other two local cases with unknown origin included a 23-year-old Indian domestic helper who lived with her employer at Ocean View Residences in Ma On Shan. She went shopping and eating with two friends in Mong Kok, Sham Shui Po and Tsim Sha Tsui last Monday (14); and A 79-year-old retired woman who lives in You Oi Village, Tuen Mun, mostly hangs out and eats breakfast in Aiding Shopping Centre. As for imported cases, one person came to Hong Kong from Ukraine, two from Argentina, five from India and one from the Philippines.
