HARD TRUTH - Our ex-ministers cannot make a living outside of GLCs and Govt

Confuseous

Defending his ministerial pay policy (Hard Truths, page 125), Lee Kuan Yew says of his generously compensated ministers, "If they're quality people, they have no trouble going out." Astute observers will note that Wong is staying very much within the incestuous nest of government related organisations. If the headhunters know the quality of every outstanding person, as Lee maintains in his book, how is it that private sector firms have not beat a path to their doors? The same awkward question may be asked of George Yeo, Mah Bow Tan and Raymond Lim. Either they are too complacent or too shy to send out their resumes, or the rejection rate was just too embarrassing to endure.

Note to Sam: This is an old post but this rebuttal is timely.

I guess George Yeo and Lim Hwee Hua are proving your point wrong.

The citizens should do the present ministers a favor and vote them out of office. That way they don't have to sacrifice so much financially by taking office.

Ex- politicians no matter how incompetent and even with a strings of failures that cannot be disputed are always welcomed by the private sector. The need to open doors, make connections, reveal the inner workings of govt as well as personal attributes of policy makers are invaluable.

Take the case of Saw, the lady who failed SMRT so badly and we are still picking up the pieces. She is not exactly someone who is presentable, certainly no eye candy, and she was picked shortly by a company that always plays close to this government.

The salary argument is about public service and why we have the world's highest paid politicians and we are still listing badly compared to the first generation politicians who gave the best part of our existence despite the salary given at that time.

hahaha....again talking through your arse....
saw is now president and CEO of Auric Pacific Group.....
looking at the profile of the company, it is just another listed company and one wonders how it is interpreted as a company that "älways plays close to this government".
don't understand why you must bullshit or exaggerate in most of your posts.

I believe Saw met her KPIs which probably had very little to do with serving the public. She is not a corporate failure but more like a moral failure. That does not hurt someone in business. Anyway her tenure in SMRT is symbolic of what was and is going wrong here. Bottom line first.

Are you guys really so ignorant? There is no way that the Singapore government could have put George in that position - you have no idea who the Kuok family are, do you?

And to suggest the government put Saw in Auric is laughable. The fact is that she accomplished what she was supposed to do in SMRT - higher profits.

you know who the Lee family is?the family that uses shell companies to put billions into losing companies.and is applauded by many.and who cares what that bytch accomplished?look at the state of smrt now....leaving just before the whole house blew up,if anything she should be recalled, arrested and strung up by piano wire for treason and sabotage.

SINGAPORE: The independent directors of Olam International said they view the takeover offer from Temasek Holdings as "fair and reasonable" after taking into account the recommendations of independent financial adviser Rothschild (Singapore).

In a circular to shareholders issued on Thursday, Olam's independent directors said they concurred with Rothschild's assessment of the terms of the offer from a financial point of view.

Last month, Temasek offered to buy shares in Olam that it did not already control at S$2.23 per share.

This values the Singapore-listed commodities firm at around S$5.4 billion.

The offer was made through its unit Breedens Investments.

This Olam thingy is defy logic. Any way, let review two three years later.

So much emotion. Has it occurred to you that it is the board's fault? You set KPIs for her, of course she'll focus on the KPIs and she did achieve the KPIs and earn her bonuses. Simi treason etc etc? Shows you understand nothing about the corporate world.

shes the farking ceo,is she brainless,do we employ brainless people to run corporations and organisations?if u were the ceo of the company and can do whatever the fark u want(judgin by the fact she completely neglected maintenance and upkeep),would u not have greater aspirations to build a legacy that u can be proud of?or u telling me monkeys can do the same job as them?setting up nasi lemak stores to meet ur kpi are u serious?

can we get the japanese to run smrt instead?at least they do everything with pride and honor no matter what job they do.
