Sweden underscores support to Palestine question, two-state solution

NEW YORK, Friday, September 23, 2022 (WAFA) – Sweden Thursday underscored its support to the Palestinian question and the two-state solution.

“Enjoyed meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki on the challenges in the ]Middle East Peace Process[. Actions that raise tensions and undermine a negotiated two-state solution must stop,” Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde tweeted.

She added that she recalled the importance of elections and reconciliation.

Lind made her remarks following a meeting with Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister Riad Malki on the sidelines of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) at the UN Headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, Malki briefed the top Swedish diplomat on the deteriorating situation on the ground in the Palestinian territories given the persistence of Israel, the occupying power, in committing crimes and human rights violations against the Palestinian people, including extrajudicial killings, detention raids, administrative detention, home demolitions, forced expulsions and settler attacks.

He called on Sweden to continue to support the State of Palestine’s diplomatic and political efforts aimed at ending the Israeli occupation and realizing the rights of the Palestinian people, includingtheir inalienable right to self-determination and independence, through supporting Palestine’s bid to win full U.N. membership and engaging with the EU and other European states to recognize the State of Palestine as a means to safeguard two-state solution, upon which there is an international consensus.

Meanwhile, Malki had a similar meeting with his Nicaraguan counterpart, Denis Colindres.

Colindres affirmed his country’s support to the Palestinian question and willingness to take initiatives in support of peacemaking based on the two-state solution.
