Two Malaysians to hang for drug trafficking
By Ong Dai Lin, TODAY | Posted: 05 February 2010 0748 hrs

SINGAPORE: Two Malaysians were sentenced to death on Thursday for drug trafficking.

On 16 June 2008, Cheong Chun Yin, 26, arrived at Changi Airport on a Silkair flight from Myanmar.

He met Pang Siew Fum, 54, at Terminal 2 and handed her a black trolley luggage bag in the carpark. Cheong then left in a taxi while Pang drove to Toa Payoh.

They were subsequently arrested by Central Narcotics Bureau officers who had been instructed to tail the pair. About 2.7 kilogrammes of diamorphine were found in the black bag.

At Pang's house, officers found another two luggage bags containing about 5 kilogrammes of diamorphine.

Pang claimed she thought the bag from Cheong had contained precious stones and Buddha pendants. Cheong claimed he thought the bags held gold bars.

The severe capital punishment for Drugs Courier does serve its purpose.

However, it's noteworthy that most nations in the world do not practise capital punishment for drug trafficking anymore.

However, I still think it's good to have a severe capital punishment for people who are in the drug trade, because this is truly keeping the drugs cases low in SGP...

Of course it's inhumane, but this would really send a message across not to import drugs into SGP, else it's the gallows for the courier...

Anyways, I do feel sorry for them, as these people are just the pawns, foot soldiers of a greater syndicate.

SAY NO TO DRUGS, NOR DRUG TRADE...

I do not think that the level of drug taking is LOW in S'pore. It is simply UNDER-REPORTED. If the DEMAND for drugs is LOW in S'pore then it is NOT lucrative for drug couriers to face the risk of the death penalty to bring drugs into S'pore in the first place.

The war on drugs can only be successful if it is targetted at the DEMAND side rather than the supply side of the equation. Would anyone be foolish to experiment on drugs if the penalty of being caught as a drug addict is EXTREMELY SEVERE?

It is SO MUCH easier and CHEAPER to catch an active drug addict from random urine tests than it is to detect and nab drug couriers which require months of surveillance, intelligence gathering, paying informants costing lots of tax dollars.

Perhaps the 3 strikes for drug addicts and you get the DEATH PENALTY is fair
deterrence, if one cannot change after the 2nd conviction, one is indeed a useless loser bum and burden to society.

The gallows for 3rd conviction drug users would:
1. Serve as a STRONG message/deterrence to others.
2. Remove useless losers who are a scourge and burden on society.
3. Reduces the crime rate committed by hardcore drug addicts who need cash for their habits.

FEWER DRUG ADDICTS mean LESS DEMAND and drug trafficking becomes less lucrative.

So this guy managed to pass customs with a bagful of drugs.. He is cool.

Some guys would sweat and give themselves away.

I thought debating needs more of wits than balls.

Goh Meng Seng

U need the balls to walk up to the podium first. The brains part come after u are on the stage.

Do u wash your hands first before peeing? Cos it is quite different from washing hands after peeing.
