White-box tablets are the best-selling popular tablet sold on China's online shopping websites and far more popular than well-known brands such as Lenovo and Samsung, according to our Chinese-language sister newspaper Commercial Times.
According to major Chinese e-commerce websites Jingdong Mall, 51buy.com and Dangdang, the prices of these generic tablets are between 800 and 1,000 yuan (US$130-$160). All of the five best-selling tablets on Jingdong Mall were made by Chinese domestic brands Agso and Newsmy. A 8-inch Newsmy tablet with 16GB of memory sells for around 800 yuan (US$130).
Lenovo's IdeaTab A2207 was the top-selling tablet on 51buy.com, the third-largest online shopping platform in the country. The 1,099-yuan (US$179) device has been popular since it can hold two SIM cards and make calls. The second and third most popular tablets were Malata's T2 and Samsung's GalaxyTab P5110.
Samsung's 7-inch tablet P3110 was the second most popular tablet on Dangdang. However, the 1,299-yuan (US$211) device is far more expansive the bestseller made by generic Chinese brand Aigo, whose cheapest tablet is priced at 278 yuan (US$45). Teclast Electronics' 7-inch tablet, ranked No.4 on Dangdang's best selling list, is also a bargain at 396 yuan (US$64).
Chinese tablet users seems to prefer domestic brands due to their low prices. Only Samsung and Apple have managed to grab a certain market share in China while Taiwan's Acer and Asus has been having a hard time competing with their Chinese rivals.
