Dr Chee begins in Mandarin, saying he is very excited to speak to the crowd. He asks for forgiveness as his command of the language is not very good. He jokes self-deprecatingly he is from Anglo-Chinese School, famous for not speaking Mandarin well.

And tells a story about how he polished his Mandarin because he was interested in a pretty Taiwanese girl he met in Georgia in the United States when he was studying there.
