I hope the opposition secretary generals in the forum will the frame the coming GE as a referendum on this pertinent issue that every Singaporean is concerned.

That's silly. While it is a big issue, it's not the ONLY issue.

then again, polemics work wonderfully well in the arena, however you got to be damn sure you are on the correct extreme.

The single issue will a chain effect on all the other issues

the prices of housing
adequacy of hospital beds/ A&E capacity response time
class size in schools
jobs and wages

A referendum is good !

becos every elections, the stupid voters are just audience, and they see who act better.....sometimes candidates faces they dont like, they dont vote....so very unfair.

if got referendum, with the chain effects like what doors has said, then every voter must participate....they have to decide what future they want for their posterity.

tell you, overcrowding is a very jialat issue, sinkapore has a better choice, donch need to go down the PAP way....it's tragic for small island.

those who go HK, Bangkok, bejing, you know what it is....

If this ghastly mistake is not corrected, hell will be for local sinkaporeans.....you see, PAP baboons are rich, they can go somewhere they like !

Oppo parties must warn the voters....this is the last chance to save sinkapore !

If the incumbent, which is the highest paid in the world, can say this about their no.1 policy

On housing, Mr Goh acknowledged that the surge of immigrants in 2007 and 2008 caught the Government by surprise. But the Government had not stopped them from coming because the booming economy needed workers.

Mr Goh also acknowledged the National Development Ministry 'did not provide for the sudden surge' in its housing plans.

Placing a fail safe in the parliament is the only logical choice.

Life after 6.5 million is no wonderland !

PAP may be happily collecting passive incomes but the residents will suffer !

Singapore does not have a new territory, nor an island like HK island !

PAP wants 6.5 million may have a cryptic agenda--torture the locals or displace the local lot.

A referendum can balloon into many issues which will teach the voters to wake up from PAP dream !

Overpopulated place is not a fun thing, PAP is playing with fire !

It is better to go back to malaysia or let oppo has a chance to run singapore rather than rotting the island with 6.5 million !

A referendum is fiercely needed ! Local singaporeans dont stop this madness will be the biggest mistake they about to regret !

The state of Singapore society is not good.

It would be nice if we can do a poll of Singaporeans (on the streets, in the heartlands etc) on whether they think that Singapore is heading in the right direction, as well as if they are optimistic about the future of our country.

There will always be Singaporeans, who will continue to support the PAP, as long as their own welfare is well taken care of. The plight of the less well-off Singaporeans are, to them, "just facts of life". The PAP plays on and encourages such sentiments.

If things are not going well for the PAP, they would, in a knee-jerk fashion, point to other countries (be it other developing or developed countries) and say, "at least we ain't THAT bad", hoping that Singaporeans will feel "grateful" after seeing such comparisons. The compliant local media will also come up with reports of how things are much worse elsewhere to drive home the message.

I'm not sure how long this can go on. If the ruling party continues to think that past performance is an indicator of future results, they are truly self-deluded. Sadly, the PAP has now become a parody of its former self, taking knee-jerk reactions to problems highlighted by Singaporeans, without clearly thinking through the consequences of these half-baked measures (as seen in recent events).

Singapore is not the PAP. Singaporeans deserve better leadership than the current batch, who have evidently failed their own countrymen.
