U see. Jaga caught sleeping can be jailed not more than 3 months! Very very serious offence. Forced to work 6 days or nights work on a 12hrs shift. Total 72 hrs per week. Expect him to work like a robot.:poop: See...they can come out with crazy laws.

How much does a jaga make that they deserves such onerous responsibilities? Wow, they have a law just for jagas. MPs earn way more than jaga and they are the ones who pass laws that impact all of us, I don't see a law targetting them. Why not? What about judges, CEOs ...all these people make a lot more money and carry heavier responsibilities and the opportunity for them to become miscreants are greater. Yet there are no specific laws to manage their behaviours.

72 hrs a week...gross pay only @$2200 pm. 4 off days a week. 7 days annual leave. Their job scope very wide. Not just stay in guard room. Couple in dealing with unreasonable visitors n owners. Wah...really no life tis type of job.

So, if you organize a video conference with 100 people to discuss sinkapore issues, is a permit required?

It is getting ridiculous ...the kangaroo judges are showing more stupidity with each month.
By the way things are going, a video conference call with only one other person to discuss domestic politics would be made illegal too.:frown:

So now security guards cannot eat snakes or take cover! So stressful!

Tell me who dont eat snake? U go wk 12hrs nite shift. See whether u can sit throughout the shft eyes wide open. Already shortage of manpower in the security industries. With such laws will see more jaga switching to other jobs. Esp those temp and relief jaga.

Sometimes you really can't blame the peasant who live in fear of losing his rice bowl.
What I really cannot understand is the self proclaimed "world class" universities we have here-no noise from them esp from the social sciences/ liberal arts./law academics and faculties here.
Can you be world class and yet do not comment or contribute to civil society ?
What is Yale-NUS which claimed to be Asia’s leading liberal arts college that prepare students for the global challenges of the 21st century, very silent on socio/politico issues in its own backyard.

You said it. Fear of losing rice bowl, fear of being persecuted and prosecuted if they venture beyond real or imaginery OB markers. The wise ones are well-versed in self censorship while the mavericks will not last.

As for Yale-NUS, Yale is in it for the money. It's a business venture which they do not want to jeopardise.
