Tiagong , Hospitals boh reports on casualties or people at A&E

It is a concern, thus the need to know WHAT exactly were the chemicals burnt as well as how the fire was put out as any water or another chem substance to put out the fire WILL mixed with chemicals AND will fall into the drainage systems, & ultimately into the sea affecting sea creatures lives that we are dependent upon as food source, let alone the harm that may be done to Humans who were living close by. This is NO ordinary fire of wood & concrete, or limited chemicals in household, BUT a huge chem repository for manufacturing purposes.

Although the Singapore govt had done much to isolate industries into non-habitable populations, there are STILL workers within the Tuas region, & as Singapore industrial & services run 24/7 with shift workers, including security services whom may be around & susceptible to the effects of chemicals that so far had not be made known to the public. Worse still, not just on the water sources, burnt chem turns into a gaseous state & easily spread by wind & weather conditions to even BEYOND Tuas region & affect even our fishery industries by any of such hopefully unintentional events .

Will the owners & its shareholders of that burnt factory be LIABLE for the harm done for their negligence that cause such ecological damage? They for sure can claim insurance, but what about those whom had been AFFECTED by the exposure from such chemical fire? Isn't the company RESPONSIBLE for such, as well as the courageous fire-fighter whom suffered from attempts to put out the chem fire?

Make no mistake - this post is NOT about seeking compensation, but ONLY to get the facts to MITIGATE the effects of such chem fire, to SAVE LIVES, as the chem fire exposure to the environment is still at the initial stages, so that PREVENTIVE measures can be taken today & into the future....

There were no workers at the site when the fire started, said Megachem’s Group Managing Director Sidney Chew.

He estimated that the company lost some SGD10 million worth of chemicals and added that the building Megachem has occupied since 1994 would have to be “totally rebuilt”.

“We have no choice. The structure is compromised,” said Chew, adding that the building is insured.

The cause of the fire, which was reported by a security guard on duty, is being investigated. The public were advised to avoid the area.

Train services between the Tuas Link and Tuas West Road stations on the East-West MRT line were suspended yesterday for nearly two hours because of the blaze. Services resumed at around 7.20am.

Megachem is located between the two MRT stations.
