A retail company was yesterday taken to court for allegedly importing or selling fake cosmetics. At the hearing, Mr Eric Chew - acting on behalf of South Korean company VOV Cosmetics - said its representatives found fake versions of its brands in Ta Zhiang Trading's shops in Tampines, Yishun, Toa Payoh Central, Jurong West, Woodlands and Bedok North in March. A total of 34 items bearing the VOV Cosmetics brand were found.
A representative from Ta Zhiang, who was identified only as Madam Chan, appeared in court but did not enter a plea. In all, the company faces five charges of importing or selling fake goods. The case has been adjourned to July 7. If found guilty, the owners of the company can be fined up to $10,000 per item or jailed for up to five years on each charge.
