its more that Cina is a useful language
Malay was given token National Language status in SG at its founding, becoz it was thought mainland Mudland going to be the economy. Then SG discovered it can sell to the whole world so SG no longer needed Mudland. Strangely it is good that SG drill commands in Malay so we don't sound like a Western or a China communist army.
Yes so useless that even m&ds want to learn Cina.
