The minimum salary for foreign talent to qualify for an Employment Pass will be raised to $3,000 from $2,800.

At the same time, the educational qualifications requirements will also be tightened.

The tightening measures, which will take effect from January 2012, is aimed at creating a more level playing field between foreigners and locals vying for white collar, professional jobs, said Deputy Prime Minister and Manpower Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Tuesday morning.

The key word is LEVEL, so technically this country government doesnt protect its citizen and allow them more advantage at their country of birth.

We have to thank the 40% who have the guts not to vote for a government who does not protect its citizen from exploitation from companies who come here for cheap labours, under so many disguises. The 'field' had been uneven for a very long time...

Now we hear of changes in medical benefits, Housing, & what else. If the results would have been the same 66.6% or more, & only 2 Oppositions without a loss of a GRC & a Minister, would all these changes be possible??

60% repent now!

So a multi-million dollar corporation will be paying an extra 10 thousand for 50 foreigners and and extra of 20 thousand for 100 foreigners. Sounds pretty sh|tty to me.

We still lose out cos we have to go back to reservist + cpf contribution + we cant work longer hours without OT cos we have families here.

Frankly speaking the move do not do much.

1. A Singaporean or PR asking for $2,600.00 may not be considered as;

a. 16% Employer CPF contribution comes Sep 1st 2011 would make the salary to $3,016.00.
b. For Male Singaporeans the company have to release them for reservists, incamp, RT and mobilization.
c. For Female the employer have to contend and grant maternity leave.
d. Apart from that the usual children meet the parent, compensationate leaves, paternity leave, family problems etc.

All this are genuine considerations and one need not do the maths to see where the advantage lies.
Plus with the EP some employers have some room to maneuver in terms of salary deduction toward accommodation, food etc.

2. For EP the employer can bring in as many PMET they want without quota or LEVY !

To negate the imbalance the minimum salary should be at $4,500.00 at least or $4,000.00 with a $500.00
employer contribution to the SDL (Skill Development Levy).

Otherwise, it defeats what one term Talent to begin with.
