A 44-year old woman who scratched and kicked three police officers to resist arrest has been fined $10,500 in a district court.
Joyce Lee Hwei Ting was also found with not less than 48mg of alcohol in every 100ml of her breath, and was banned from driving for 20 months.
Lee was driving home on the evening of 8th May 2013 when her car rolled backwards across four lanes of the Central Expressway and crashed into another car. She then drove and stopped on the road shoulder, followed by the other driver.
Police who arrived on the scene decided to arrest Lee after she failed the breathalyzer test. But she resisted and fought back, and continued to scream and struggle after being handcuffed. When an officer tried to place her into the police car, she scratched and kicked her several times in the stomach and leg, resulting in bruises and a back sprain in the female officer.
Lee could have been fined $5,000 and jailed up to six months for drink driving. For using force on a public servant, she could have been jailed up to four years and fined.
