A video has been posted on the internet showing Vincent Wijeysingha participating at a forum which discussed the promotion of the gay cause in Singapore.

The discussion at the forum also touched on sex with boys and whether the age of consent for boys should be 14 years of age.

In the video, Wijeysingha was introduced as being from the SDP.

In addition to other comments, Wijeysingha stated: 'I think the gay community has to rally ourselves. Perhaps one outcome of today’s forum would be, for those of us who are interested, to come together to further consider how we can address the 377 issue as well as further rights issues in relation to gays and lesbians.'

We believe that candidates should be upfront about their political agenda and motives, so that voters are able to make an informed choice.

The issue is not Wijeysingha’s sexual orientation. That is a matter for him.

The video raises the question on whether Wijeysingha will now pursue this cause in the political arena and what is the SDP's position on the matter.

==============================================================

THE People's Action Party team at Holland Bukit Timah GRC has questioned the Singapore Democratic Party's candidate Vincent Wijeysingha's political motivations in contesting in the coming election, after a video online showed him participating in what the PAP said was 'a forum promoting the gay cause.'

The PAP team, led by Community, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, said in statement on Monday evening that the video showing Dr Wijeysingha, who is helming SDP's Holland Bukit Timah team, had also 'touched on sex with boys and whether the age of consent for boys should be 14 years of age,' in the forum, among other issues.

'We believe that candidates should be upfront about their political agenda and motives, so that voters are able to make an informed choice,' said the statement, signed off by Dr Balakrishnan, and his teammates, Mr Christopher De Souza, Mr Liang Eng Hwa and Ms Sim Ann.

'The issue is not Wijeysingha?s sexual orientation. That is a matter for him. The video raises the question on whether Dr Wijeysingha will now pursue this cause in the political arena and what is the SDP's position on the matter.'

In a swift rebuttal, the SDP's party chief Dr Chee Soon Juan said last night in a video response that the party is not pursuing 'the gay agenda', and called on Dr Balakrishnan to stop engaging in 'smear tactics'.

Well, Vincent has never deny that he is gay and I do not see anything wrong with being gay. It is a personal choice.

'Suppressed' video of Vincent Wijeysingha

This is probably the video which Dr Vivian Balakrishnan said will raise "some very awkward questions" and the video which the Singapore Democratic Party is supposed to be "suppressing".

But in all fairness, this video is not SDP's. And if Dr Vivian thinks that the voters will feel "awkward" with a candidate who is "openly gay" (according to lawyer M Ravi), I think he should just plainly say so, for the sake of a proper discourse.
