Do you think the Singapore military should procure cruise missiles?

Now the latest toy is playing w drones - imagine one operator controlling 10 drones each w a simple rocket ? It's almost like playing counter strike w sniper rifle ... U can fly up close n select ur target. Cheaper than a tomahawk

Yes bro. These drone can operate autonomously on their AI. The uav pilot just need to keep an eye on them, just in case they screw up. Such drones r able to prioritize targets and carry out intelligent evasive manoeuvres on their own too. Just like the party members one can recruit in diablo 2. U just let them do their thing, no worries on yr part. The USAF has already produced diferent types of drones. One is equipped with a laser cannon to shoot down targets, another is equipped with advanced radar for surveillance. They have different names, reaper, predator, etc. Given our country close ties with the US, im sure our air force will get these latest toys as well

a taiwanese hsiung feng ii (hf-2) missile is launched during the han kuang 18 military exercises in 2002.

such weapons will be of great deterrence to any of our would be aggressors. Cruise missiles will be a force-multiplier. This is important as singapore has limited human and other resources.

What is your take on this issue?

this is a definite buy!

this Taiwanese missile is capable of hitting Beijing ?

no, Beijing is too far inland.

But I'm not sure whether the range has been improved.

in 2004, Yu Shyi-kun warned China Hsing feng missiles will be fired at Shanghai if China attacked Taiwan

Bro the Harpoon is a ship killing missile.

Thanks.

It doesn't matter whether the target is land or sea target, Harpoon is a short range cruise missile.

If you are thinking of something inline with Tomahawk that attack land-based targets over 1000km, Why do we need to attack places so faraway? Moreover US is a member of Missile Technology Control Regime(MTRC) that forbids sales of missiles capable of hitting targets above 300km and with a payload of more than 500kg. Not even China will sell their cruise missile that falls under this spec. Chances of sinkieland getting Tomahawk or equivalent system is close to nil.

I tink there was some news (not substantiated) that Singapore looked at the Iskandar missile from Russia..

If we got it, then this baby will blow the socks off any cruise missle...

The Russian Iskander-M cruises at hypersonic speed of 2100–2600 m/s (Mach 6–7) at a height of 50 km. The Iskander-M weighs 4615 kg, carries a warhead of 710–800 kg, has a range of 400–480 km, and achieves a CEP (Circular error probable) of 5–7 meters. During flight it can maneuver at different altitudes and trajectories and can turn at up to 20 to 30 G to evade anti-ballistic missiles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9K720_Iskander

Red dot should procure ICBM. If Indonesia is making a nusicance, fire some ICBM to teach them a lesson or 2. Don't mess with RED DOT ! If Malaysia is making a noise, same treatment to all !

What a SILLY WASTE of money by the hawkish but incompetent SAF Paper Generals? It is just a means of cash transferance to make some people rich so as to stockpile a huge pile of military junk that has an expiry date (to be discarded and wasted) when there are so many urgent stuff (overcrowded hospitals, MRT etc) hat needs attention.

Strategically in any exchange of fire-power, Singapore LOSES big time given it's VERY SMALL geographic size. Any hostile country in the region is geographically LARGER in land mass and they can spread and disperse all the military installations making it very expensive (must buy MANY, MANY ordnances/missiles) to hit all their DISPERSED INSTALLATIONS.

Singapore is so congested that just a conventional artillery barrage with DUMB SHELLS would wipe out ALL installations in the 1st hour of action. GAME OVER.

In fact with so many FTs already inside SG, it is already GAME OVER militarily speaking. The foreigners already outnumber the number of SAF NS men. Just like the police who hid in the ambulance in Little India, outnumbered that they dare not even use their firearms for warning shots.
