4时50分左右，中国载人潜水器“奋斗者”号布放；7点42分，“奋斗者”号顺利突破一万米的海底深度，“奋斗者”号海试现场指挥部随之爆发出热烈的欢呼声。

下潜10000米，不仅是对中国深海探测能力的验证，也是对潜水器是否达到设计要求的验证。

北京时间8时12分，中国“奋斗者”号载人潜水器在马里亚纳海沟成功坐底，坐底深度10909米。
坐底是在综合考虑潜水器速度、姿态和海底地质情况下，让“奋斗者”号人为地在海底着陆，有人将其形容为“踩一脚刹车”，以便于接下来在海底进行科考和作业。
据介绍，坐底之后，“奋斗者”号将在海底进行包括采样在内的海底作业、巡航等环节，时间持续六个小时，这也是“奋斗者”号在海底设计最长的作业时间。而今天，“奋斗者”号还要再向这个纪录发起挑战，看看其设计性能是否完全达标。
妙不可言！听潜航员来自万米海底的声音
“万米的海底，妙不可言。希望我们能够通过‘奋斗者’的画面，向大家展示万米海底。”
这是在“奋斗者”号海试现场指挥部，通过搭载的声学通信系统，万米深海传来的潜航员声音。
潜航员还透露：“我们现在正在近底航行观察”，“海底有很多不明的体积比较小的海参，现在具体观察寻找比较有价值的生物和观测机制。”
在万米深海，潜航员们要面临各种身体考验。
据总台央视新闻记者丛威娜介绍，与布放时30度的海面温度相比，坐底马里亚纳海沟的“奋斗者”号，舱内温度只有20度左右；另外，随着湿度的增加，人的身体会感到更加寒冷。特别是主驾张伟，他的脚由于特别靠近球舱的球壳，那里温度只有1到2度，所以他的身体感受会更加强烈。因此，包括毛巾袜在内的防寒取暖衣服，就放在他们随身携带的包里，并需要根据个人身体感受随时增加衣物，做好脚底保暖。
