US govt never provided ROC much help financially or military from 1911 till 2 years after the start of Sino-Japan war. US imposed economic embargo on Japan in 1939 and barter aids to China in 1940 after KMT was in real danger of losing the war. US helped KMT to make sure China would continue fighting and wouldn't surrender or sign a peace treaty with Japan. Both China and Japan would get bogged down in a long exhausting war, neither sides were allowed to win, that was in US best interests.

The bullshit 1941 lend-lease program of $2 billions USD dollars aid to ROC was effectively only $500M. Stilwell controlled the lend-lease program and spent almost all the money on British wars in Burma and India. US Yalta betrayal was the beginning of the end of Chinese nationalists. After WW2, US sent Soviet agent George Marshall to China for a peace mission that eventually sealed the demise of Chiang govt. Marshall final act to sabotage ROC was to remove MacArthur during Korean war, subsequently ending any hopes of a ROC counterattack on China.

China's friend during the 1930s was Germany and Hitler. Nanking decade success owed a lot to Siemens/John Rabe and German government financial aid. Chiang's German trained infantry divisions formed the elite of his army. At the start of Sino-Japan war, Germany tried to mediate peace between China and Japan but in vain, Germany sent financials aids, military weapons and advisers to assist KMT war efforts. Germany doesn't want to see a war between China and Japan as that would ease Russia pressure on her Asia frontiers. Hitler was keen to recruit China as an ally against Communism.
