That's right !! I remember there's a news saying there's no figures for execution in Singapore , why suddenly now got figure ?
I would dispute the Singapore figure. But no surprises about China, executing more than the rest of the world put together.

We have now moved on to lethal injections, hangings, firing squads, gas chambers. But times will again move on as societal norms evolved. Capital punishments is on the decrease and no point being a hold-out, worst as a form of political expediency. In 2002, an indon maid was spared the noose despite killing both her employer & the employer's 18 mth child. She even bought petrol from the petrol station to cover up the murder. Previously we hanged an Indon commando for bombing and a local fisherman was lynched.
From more than 52 hangings a year, Singapore have now dropped to 4 a year. Was it due to sinkies becoming more law abiding now. If you read about murder trials committed between friends, our hanging judges are the ones who decide if the murder weapon knife went in too far to merit mandatory death sentence. In 2003, Arunprakash Vaithilingam was hanged for the murder of his colleague (and) flat-mate, Lourdusamy Lenin Salvanayagan. Vaithlingam had attacked his friend in a sudden fit of anger and there was no intention to kill. "In fact, after stabbing Lenin, Arun had taken him to a nearby hospital with his friends," his father said in a petition for clemency which was turn down by SR Nathan, who should now regret declining so many petitions as KY Lee crony. The old pung sai even once decreed all the process of arrest to hanging should not take more than 18 months.
Now its our AG chamber who tweaked the formula further. Using measurements like .009 grams short of mandatory death sentence. Like the case of the German girl. In 2002, Julia Suzanne Bohl, a 20 year old German girl was found with 687g of marijuana in her home in Singapore, 187g higher than the limit which carries the mandatory death sentence. Germany promptly intervened, and because of the politically sensitive nature of the case the charge was reduced to one of trafficking and she was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Eventually, Julia served only 2 years of her prison sentence and she was sent back to Germany.
A new law in place, our judges now have the discretion instead of meting out mandatory death sentences if the drug trafficker has 'substantively co-operated', and will serve out the rest of his life behind bars. It will be interesting to see if hangings in Singapore will rise back up.
