Dalai Situation "very tense", unrest possible in Tibet: Dalai Lama

BADEN BADEN, Germany (AFP) - The Dalai Lama warned Wednesday of a fresh uprising in Tibet in the "very tense" run-up to the 50th anniversary of the failed rebellion against Chinese rule that prompted his flight into exile. "Today there is too much anger... The situation is very tense," said the 73-year-old Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader during a visit to the German spa town of Baden Baden. "At any moment there can be an outburst of violence," he told a group of journalists. "This is my worry because with more uprising, there will be more crackdown. Things are very sad." He added: "It is so tense that the Chinese military have their hands on the trigger when they carry weapons... So long as there is a Chinese military presence, there will be tension." "Since public execution is difficult, they use torture when Tibetans are detained, As soon as people are arrested, they use torture -- and sometimes they kill them." Next month marks the 50th anniversary of a failed uprising by Tibetans against communist Chinese rule -- a violent episode that prompted the Dalai Lama's flight into exile in India. China regards the Dalai Lama as a separatist agitating for independence for Tibet. It lodges strong protests whenever he meets with political leaders overseas or is accorded an official welcome of any kind. Now based in Dharamsala, India, the Dalai Lama denies he is seeking independence, saying he only wants real automony for Tibet and an end to Chinese cultural oppression. He was in Baden Baden for a ceremony on Tuesday in which he received the 2008 German Media Prize, which is awarded every year by a panel of German editors and journalists. Previous recipients have included Bill Clinton, the former US president; Nelson Mandela, the Nobel laureate and former South African president; and Helmut Kohl, Germany's former chancellor. Unrest most recently erupted in the Tibetan capital Lhasa on March 14 last year, and spread to Tibetan-populated regions around China. Tibet's government-in-exile, which is led by the Dalai Lama, said more than 200 Tibetans were killed and about 1,000 hurt in a subsequent Chinese crackdown. The figures disputed by Beijing. Earlier on Wednesday, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency revealed the sentencing of 76 people in connection with the violence -- an increase from a previously reported figure of 55. The Dalai Lama said Wednesday his information about the situation in Tibet came from "Tibetan groups or individuals who come to see me when they leave Tibet". He said he understood that, after more than a half-century under Chinese rule, many Tibetans have "desperate opinions," but he argued that non-violence was the only way forward. "The Chinese systematically suppress Tibetan identity," he said. "The Chinese are determined to crush it mercilessly." In many places in Tibet, he said, schools have been closed, including privately funded schools which are "more free to teach Tibetan identity". It is essential, he said, "to create a signal (to Beijing) that the Tibetan question won't go, unless a mutually accepted solution is found. That is important." "The interest for Tibetan culture and Tibetan human rights is now worldwide."

If China let Tibet go, Xinjiang will demand for the same, so the communist will never allow that, prepare for more violence.

Somehow I get a nasty feeling both sides are itching for a showdown. :(

Letting Tibet go will open a can of worms which will do nobody any good.

If Tibet and XInjinag time their revolt at the same time, China will be in big trouble, Muslim fighters will pour in across the border to join the fight.

With the current 25Million out of job migrant workers, they will also create unrest to loot stores.

All the ingredients are ready for WW3, all we need now is a trigger.

Dalai had signed a 17 clause of agreement to remain under the sovereign rule of Beijing ,,as it has been since the Yuan dynasty 6/700 years ago...then the CIA came in to train a batch of US BACKED FIGHTERS TO STAGE A REVOLT...YOU SEE...
when communist took over ..the whole of china got hardship...now..things are much better..
I travel to chna frequently..and i see in Sichuan where the Tibetans monks enjoy complete freedom of whorships and was well treated and respected by the Han followers..the Tibetan all speaks Mandarin so well ,, ......and the Tibetan integrate very well with others races...now..Dalai wants all hans to vacate Tibet and part of Sichuan...that is BAD IDEAS..for human living peacefully together for over 800 years..
For what I see ...I cannot understand what Dalai is trying to tell the woeld...truth..halh truth..or worst lies..
I am a Buddhist ,,a fellow buddhist like Dalai..on the respect..I will like Dalai to speak TRUTHFULLY...,AND SEEK THE TRUTH..AS WE SEEK THE PATH TO OUR DELIVERANCE..

How can this man ever speak the truth when he and his clique during their days in Tibet were suppressing the rest of their fellow Tibetans so that this elite class of people have a good life. Today, he enjoys all sorts of luxury goods kindly donated to him by outsiders who naively believe in him and his forked tongue.

Looking after his people's interest in Tibet is furthest from his mind. Why should he care? He is enjoying his life right now and the only motive for his rhetorics is to churn up publicity for his own waning image to keep the donations filling up his own personal piggy bank.

The Nobel prize committee could have awarded the peace prize to Hitler.

Dalai should first explain to the world..why he escaped from china after he and 3 other tibetan leaders who signed the agreement to remain under the central rule..and why 2 of his brothers joined the CIA together with a whole team of TIBETANS ..to be trained by CIA in USA.. AND air-dropped back to china to stage a revolts?
why CNN will never even mentioned this historical facts when they report on the Dalai???
Tibet was under the central riles for a few dynasty from Yuan to the present days..800 more years...Tibet was very peaceful and cooperative during the Ming and Ching dynasty..bcos...no CIA and British dare to come to disturd china then...only after world world 2..when china was poor and totally devasted that USA try to seperate Tibet from china.....so just another CIA games..

What is the Dalai Lama doing in a spa town?

Getting full body massages followed by BJs and f***ings?

Where does he get the money to pay for his trip & pleasures?

Seems like he's also getting bail-out money from Paulson-Geitner et al...

His fully funded frequent visits to playgrounds for the rich is historical.

Good question. How do you think he can afford all that luxurious jet set living for a person living in exile for decades?

Hi bros..Tibetans..were under Han's rule for more than 800 years..NOT half decades
culturally,,the Hans tought them farming,,weavings..medicine..and many better part of the Han culture during the Tang dynasty...there are only few million tibetans...much less than the mongolians..Manchus..Huis.and the many other smaller tribes..who have already mixed and integrated so well with the Hans and others through inter-marriage..
all these WESTERN FUNDED publicity are just westerners intervention into china,,,,,
Dalai has not explain or rebut the many historical facts.that he himself inked[ signed]..and later allowed the CIA to stage a revolt ,,,even the US gov dare not refute..
SO ..WHO IS NOW CALLING UPRISING? you need not guess
CIA...thats right...bcos..US IS IN DEEP SHIT..SHIT REALLY..and china economy is the envy of the world....so start to disturb china and make china not so enviable by the world....please ask DALAI ,,if you have a chance..did his gov ever received monies through the many fronts from CIA?? were his brothers trained by CIA in the US...
then all the picture will be clear....
