Dumai is a secluded town. Snd malacca has nothing to offer those in Sumatra.
On the other hand, landing at kukup will grant access to jb and singapura. Ports, industries, medical.. Bulk of sumatra population is south of pekan baru.

What makes you think so? By 20 years time, the capital of Indonesia, Nusantara, will be shifted to the new East Kalimantan province. Java and Sumatra will only play secondary roles, by then.

The fault lies on the west coast. Dams have been built in China's yunnan, Sichuan also in earthquake zones. Tunnel between honshu to Hokkaido too in japan.
