THE Straits Times, Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) flagship English daily newspaper, continues to be the leading newspaper in Singapore with 36 per cent readership, according to the Nielsen Media Index 2010 survey.
The survey results also showed that three in five PMEBs or professionals/managers/executives/businessmen, read The Straits Times.
Overall, SPH's stable of multimedia platforms - newspapers, online portals, magazines and radio - have garnered strong support from Singaporeans.
Lianhe Zaobao topped the list of Chinese newspapers with a readership of 15 per cent, while Her World confirmed its position as Singapore's Number One Women's Magazine.
Said SPH chief executive officer Alan Chan in a media statement: "SPH's media platforms have become an important part of Singaporeans' lives. We are pleased to know that our products are the top choice for many Singaporeans, both for news as well as for their lifestyle and entertainment needs.
"We will continue to improve on our performance and deliver products of the highest quality to our readers, listeners and advertisers."

SPH stands head and shoulders over the Singapore Observer, the National Times and the Herald Times. Its quality and content cannot be disputed compared to other three.

I found the Herald Times particularly bad as it prefers to sensationalise petty things especially neighbours have conflicts.

Lets face it, we all know that Low Thia Khiang is a shareholder of the National Times and naturally the slant would always favours him.

Its early days for the Observer so some slack before ones can make an a judgement is called for. Its shareholders are well known but being staffed by unknowns back from their studies overseas is interesting.

Kudos SPH and its stable of publications. It has a rich history and Alan Chan and his family have made their mark for undying devotion to the nation. All 3 Chan siblings work for the nation. The draw of good money has never nudged them. Take the youngest Chan Heng Wing. No notable academic qualification, started life in the civil service as an ordinary penpusher, covered PR for the Police, due to hard work became Press Secretary to then PM GCT. Then MFA realised his talents as diplomat and posted him to Shanghai where he was charges de affairs. For his omnibus talent and realised that it is sheer waste in diplomatic arena, Temasek recently snapped him up for the China market.

Talking about families, let move to the Chua sisters. Lets face it Cherian George was an aberration. Someone forgot to tell that the nation comes first and not objective coverage of the news particularly on the polticial front. The Chua sisters got it right.

While we are till on family, lets acknowledge the fact that no Sundays are the same when we listen to anals (intended) of Ms Tan, her dog, her mother, her mercz, her new husband and now her new husband's ex-wife.

Still on the family, we have 2 daughters of the Singapore's foremost Communist leader Eu Chooi Yip in the backroom of SPH helping the country forge ahead.

Let me not get started on the joys of reading the work of Janadas Devan.

Strange isn't it...the latest financial results show that circulation revenue is decreasing ( despite hikes in per copy price ) which is confirmed by not exactly original campaign to boost falling subscriber base with freebies and lucky draw, yet they claim that readership has grown!

Deep in my heart,I know for sure that they wish that they could be ranked up there, pronbably within the top 50,but alas, circumstances prevail!

IN the holy name of BIG Picture, they unashamedly toy the line(Lee's line), But I know
deep in my heart ,they are indeed a class above those bastards working for North Korea people's journal,New Light of Myanmar, and some in CCP's people's daily.Prostitutes none the less.

Time of redemtion is not now,but non-the less very near.Clocking is ticking.
