Community Policing System launched in Jurong West

Community policing officers at the launch of the system in Jurong West.

SINGAPORE: Measures to step up security within the heartlands are underway, this time for residents in Jurong.

The Community Policing System (COPS) was launched at Jurong West on Saturday morning.

Through the initiative, community policing officers will share crime prevention and counter terrorism advisories with residents.

COPS is also aimed at deepening community engagement so that the police can become more responsive in fighting crime.

Another joint police-community initiative was also launched.

Known as "Citizen-on-Patrol Hotwheels", it will see volunteers patrolling on bicycles.

Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said: “I think the best way is to partner with the police rather than to leave everything to the police. I think that by community partnership with the police, we can make sure that residents feel safe.”
