yup. there was nothing like having your war buddy of years got his legs blown to bits in a foxhole, and yet he lived with half his body. and the whole company lost so many limbs, heads, torsos in bastogne defending a wooded position that a platoon commander plus his men went crazy with shell shock. more than shell shock, he couldn't bear the sight of his elite unit (brave seasoned men with years of battle victories in their collective belts) getting blown to bits just digging in. those men truly knew what it meant losing brothers in arms.
