Long march heightens recruits' sense of achievement

THE Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has been conducting the 24km route march the night before the recruits' Basic Military Training (BMT) graduation parade since 2000 (Mr Chew Guan Sun, 'Toughening up BMT recruits is fine but...'; Monday).

Completing the 24km route march just before the parade witnessed by their family members reinforces the recruits' sense of achievement.

The current march takes place through Singapore and ends at the Marina Bay floating platform.

The scenes of Singapore and its skyline in the background motivate the recruits and serve to remind them of what they are defending, adding significance to their route march and parade.

Holding the parade two to three hours after the recruits have completed their culminating BMT activity allows them to graduate from the training at the earliest possibility.

The SAF conducts progressive training to prepare the recruits for the 24km route march and provides comprehensive safety and medical coverage throughout the route march until the end of the parade.

What better proof than this to show SAF is just a wayang.

What a silly word to use climax! Somewould think it is an orgasm. If there is a place to end this march, it will be at the Civilian War Memorial in Beach Road. Have a quite but dignified ceremony, vow never to ever let what happen in 1942 again. Not the glorified Marina Bay floating platform all glam and show. If you neglect your history you are people of no substance.

My family knew people who lost relatives to the Japs. My dad had a pupil whose father, a volunteer soldier in the SSVF who was among the Chinese volunteers murdered after the surrender. These was what happen to Singaporeans once.
