SINGAPORE: Regional broadcaster Channel NewsAsia has launched a Chinese-language SMS news alert service, providing breaking news and news headlines for Chinese-speaking users in Singapore.

The service is offered in collaboration with SingTel, where first-time subscribers will pay only 10 cents for a 30-day trial.

After that, the monthly subscription will be S$2.50.

Subscribers would get local and world news in a compact 70-character message. Some Asian entertainment news will be added into the mix on weekends and public holidays.

Users can call SingTel's hotline at 1688 to find out more about the service, or log on to the following websites for more details -- www.facebook.com/ch8news or www.xinmsn.com/chnews. - CNA/ac
