Vietcongs use mostly Russian equipment. But I Believe the US has a presence or is seeking to use their old base in Danang, which is currently being used as a international airport.

The US has treaty alliances with Australia, Japan, ROK, Philippines, and Thailand and continuing aggresive moves by China will help the U.S. efforts in trying to build a coalition like NATO that would go against China if it attempted to take Taiwan by force.
No matter how big is the PLA, it cannot fight in so many fronts, esp if India and some Asean members are roped in.Even if it manage to conquer Taiwan, the cost will he horrendous in Chinese lives on both sides .
The present situation in Ukraine will give the Chinese an idea of how difficult it will be eventhough NATO has not even directly participated in the conflict
