SINGAPORE - Sin Chew Daily and China Press reported that a Singapore court ordered a $1 alimony to be paid to a woman who cheated on her husband.

The 44-year-old woman was said to have had an affair and walked out on her husband and two daughters two years ago.

The husband, identified only as Thoo, 54, filed for a divorce in 2009 after finding out about the affair.

that is provided for under woman's charter. any lawyers can confirm this? the woman can claim even token 1 dollar as alimony even if she slept with 10 others n is a millionaire. but the man can NEVER claim a single dollar as alimony even he is a pauper.

also, she can claim maintenance for her children until 18. and normally, if the woman contest in custody claim, most likely she gets custody of children. of cse, if you go through a fine tooth comb, you can debate until cows come home regarding every single cent.

An archaic and antiquated law that should be reviewed. It makes little sense that the wilfully guilty party gets a judgement in her favour no matter how small the award is. Its a travesty of justice that this point of legislation is allowed to stand.
