so sexpensive! Probably not that nice too. When in any country, learn to eat and appreciate local food. Cheaper and well made. BTW, what is native Canadian cuisine? I bet they all have maple syrup in them.

native Canadian cuisine?

ah... erm... there's actually no such thing as you expect from Singaporean cuisine or Chinese cuisine...

Deer? Salmon? Seal? Whale? Bison?

if you fast forward to colonization then you have typical 19th century staples. Salted Meat and Fish. Very simple Anglo-French stuff.

If you mean what Canadians today consider Canadian food? Chinese take-out, Greek Souvlaki, Portuguese or French rotisserie chicken, Dutch pancakes, Belgian waffles, poutine, sushi (not Japanese sushi ah! It's a very special Canadian sushi).

I found the part of Bings #1 restaurant really fascinating. The owner of the restaurant is also the small town mayor. :roflmao:

Thanks for the education. What about moose? I'm sure they get eaten too.

We have Canadian pizza here, so I can safely say I have savoured Canadian cuisine!

yes moose and a whole bunch of other creatures too. didn't want to get too complicated.

Speaking of Canadian pizza. The concept in itself is hilarious. Canada's greatest claim to pizza is 2 for 1 (for cheap ass motherfuckers) and ...

*drumroll*

Hawaiian pizza not invented in Hawaii? FYI, that's my least favourite pizza.

I watched this a while back and enjoyed it. French-Canadian cuisine and fine dining.

Hawaiian pizza is garbage.

https://greekreporter.com/2021/05/2...e it, others hate,a Greek immigrant to Canada.

This French-Canadian cuisine, the emphasis is on French-Canadian. in the 1st scene at the ice fishing shack, the foie is very French and the Epoisses is made in France and shipped over. The only thing that is Canadian is the fish and the rabbit. In the 2nd scene at the ice hockey rink, the choucroute and the pork belly is Alsatian. Only at the very end at the cabane a sucre is it French-Canadian. Witness the Pakistani/Indian food. Imagine being deep in Frenchie icebound -30 celsius territory and they start serving naans. :roflmao: That's Canadian cuisine for you.

Btw, I've eaten at Martin Picard's joint twice already. It is good. Won't go again unless it's my last meal because it's so rich and artery clogging. But I swear to you if he wasn't a successful cook, he would be a serial killer.

The food at Martin Picard's looks really good. Will need to try it one day if I get the chance.

You should. It's what French cooking should be with new influences taken to the max.

to give you an idea of what I ate, it was a whole pig's head on a bed of gathered forest mushrooms in heavy cream. that 1 dish is heart attack heaven already.

It must've been yummy! This guy comes up with really interesting dishes. Eccentric and wild. And yes I can see his creations are not very healthy at all. Can only pig out on his food once in a very long while, need to fast and detox after that.

Good read, long though. So it's not fake chinese food to fool the ang mohs, but really creative and original chinese-canadian food.
actually it's both. angmohs in Canada come in two varieties. Those happy with the fake stuff and those who really want to try the real deal. Like I said interesting place food wise. Not good, just interesting... :roflmao:

It was good. But honestly? Not too difficult to duplicate. He is a wild man. And that's actually it. He keeps coming up with new combos. Nothing too difficult but let's just say he has a hyperactive fertile imagination...

Fast and detox before too!! Shall we bring Lerine?:biggrin:
