Boss jailed for molesting maid

A MAN who molested his domestic worker was jailed for 10 months and ordered to be given three strokes of the cane on Monday. Gerry Chan Cheow Kwang, 45, admitted to forcibly making the 25-year-old Indonesian maid masturbate him, touching her private parts and sucking her breasts at his condominium unit in Woodlands on Aug 1, 2008.
The court heard that Chan, a project manager, had asked the maid to massage him that morning. While she was massaging him, he pulled her towards him, lifted her T-shirt and brassiere, exposing her breasts. He then squeezed and sucked her breasts. When he tried to remove her shorts, she struggled and he molested her.
He threatened the victim that she would die if she did not comply with his demands. The victim reported to the police three days later. Chan, married with three children, could have been jailed for up to three years, fined or caned or received any combined punishment. A second charge was considered during his sentencing.
