Speech by Dr. Thum Ping Tjin, a historian in the book launch of "The 1963 Operation Coldstore in Singapore" describing what do the two significant happenings in Singapore have in connection and whether or not if there were any evidence that justify the arrests made during Operation Coldstore.

Salam 1Singapore !
This guy is a joke.
Tunku demanded Lim Chin Siong to be arrested……… “I want them all to be arrested!”- ordered Tunku.
???!!!
This revisionist is trying to exonerate Harry’s responsibility on Operation Coldstore and blaming it all on Tunku, despite the fact that it took place pre-merger and when Singapore had achieved self-government and Harry was in full control.
If Tunku did in fact order Operation Coldstore as a condition for merger, then why didn’t he arrest Harry in 1965 as demanded by most Malays at that time? Everything that Tunku was supposedly feared about Chin Siong and his Barisan in stirring up the Chinese to rise up and challenge the Malay domination, as this joke claims, suddenly erupted into reality in 1965, so soon and so potent. If Tunku had ordered Chin Siong’s arrest, then why didn’t he arrest Harry?
Moreover, if Tunku had demanded Chin Siong’s arrest, then he must be very stupid. By keeping Chin Siong around, he would have split the Chinese into pro-PAP and pro-Barisan in post-merger Singapore. This would have allowed him to easily divide and rule the Chinese, manipulating and enticing both Harry and Chin Siong with bait of his Alliance membership if they were to do his bidding. By destroying Chin Siong and his Barisan, he would have allowed Harry to unite the Chinese, free him to agitate the Chinese to rise up and to challenge the Malay supremacy. If Chin Siong and his Barisan were still around and hounding at him in his very own backyard, Harry would not have the time and energy to travel all over Malaysia to promote his “Malaysian Malaysia”. He would be busy kowtowing to Tunku for his support against Chin Siong and vying with MCA for Tunku affection.
Tunku is a respectable and conscientious statesman with great foresight, great compassion and great integrity, and highly regarded by Malaysians of all political stripes. If Tunku were as undemocratic and scheming as this joker portrays, he would have used ISD against Harry and impose emergency rule in Singapore as advocated by most Malay leaders at that time. Like Dr M, he could have implemented Project IC in Singapore to make the Chinese here as rare as the Kadazan-Dusun in Sabah. Or he could have spitefully done a scorched-earth as the Indonesian had done to Timur Leste on the eve of their separation. No one in history would be as kind and magnanimous as Tunku to allow any part of his nation to breakaway so peacefully, so willingly and so expeditiously. Not even Honest Abe.
To drag the good name of Tunku through the m&d and smear his reputation so as to clear Harry’s sin is simply unfair and ridiculous.
Also, let’s not forget, with a very heavy heart, that the Hammerrhoid MPs, 1Singapore’s very own “First World Opposition”, choose to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Operation Coldstore by strongly supporting the extension of detention without trial for another 50 years, and perhaps forever.
Btw, everyone knows that Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated in 1968, and not 1963 as this joker has suddenly discovered after his “deep research” into his own history archive. To him, 1963 is as confusing as who was responsible for Operation Coldstore and who was responsible for JFK shooting. Since this joker actually believes that Tunku had ordered Operation Coldstore, I won’t be surprised that he would also think that MLK had also ordered JFK shooting.
