SHAH ALAM: An army man who was accused of attempted rape, performing oral sex and committing robbery could not control his emotions and sobbed while pleading for a lower bail amount at a Sessions Court here.
Prebet Yasser Shah Shamsuddin, 35, was charged with assaulting a 27-year-old medical lab technician before attempting to rape her at an apartment here. He faces a second charge of forcing oral sex on her.
Yasser was also accused of a third charge of robbing the same victim of her two handphones, a laptop and RM120 cash.
The offences were allegedly committed at the apartment at 9am on Aug 16.
He was arrested on Aug 21.
Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Kalaiyarasi offered bail at RM20,000 each for the sexual-related offences and RM10,000 for the robbery offence.
“This is a serious case.
“The victim was assaulted and has injuries on her face. It is a concern since the accused knows where the victim lives. He could harass her if he is out,” she said yesterday.
Yasser, who was not represented, started to cry uncontrollably and asked the court for a lower bail amount.
“I don’t have a high monthly income.
“My wife is just a factory operator,” he said.
Judge Latifah Mohd Tahar allowed bail at RM6,000 for each charge with one surety.
The case is set for mention on Sept 23.
