An Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) accounts manager has been charged with obtaining a bribe of $8,000 from the director of a recreation company, Leisure @ East Coast.

Goh Boon Kok, 41, allegedly accepted the money from Judy Neo Swee Choo.

It is believed to be a reward for showing favour and assisting Leisure @ East Coast in obtaining additional advertising and promotion sponsorship of $30,000 from APB.

Goh was offered bail of $10,000 and the pre-trial conference for this case will be held on Aug 26. If convicted, he could be jailed up to five years, fined a maximum of $100,000 or both. Shaffiq Alkhatib

Ex-APB manager fined for corruption

By Khushwant Singh

IN RETURN for successfully recommending Leisure@East Coast, which operates a beach bar, for $30,000 worth of advertising and promotional sponsorship, an accounts manager with Asia Pacific Breweries received $8,000 as a reward.

Seven years later, Goh Boon Kok, 42, pleaded guilty to corruption on Monday and was fined $10,000 and ordered to pay a penalty of $8,000 by a district court.

The prosecutor said the delay was because the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau wanted to investigate and prosecute Goh's accomplice Andy Tay, who was also involved in a non-related case.

Tay has been jailed three months.
