A man assaulted a bus driver with a one metre long metal rod for not picking his wife who ran after the bus according to a report in Shin Min Daily.

The incident happened at around noon on 30 June at Woodlands Bus Depot.

The bus driver, who was driving service line 960, was alleged to have dropped off the passengers at a bus stop in Bukit Panjang area and left immediately, despite a woman running after it.

The woman complained to her husband, who is believed to be a taxi driver, and the husband headed straight to the Woodlands Bus Depot where bus 960 terminates to look for the driver.

One witness said that the man arrived at the depot with his wife. The woman went to the control station to lodge a complaint, while the man went around looking for the driver. The man is said to have asked around for the driver. He eventually found the person based on the car plate number of the bus.

Another witness said that the bus driver explained to the man that he was unaware of anyone chasing the bus, that is why he drove off. The man however did not accept the explanation.

The driver tried to walk away, but at this point, the man used the metal rod to assault the driver from the back. A driver in the area quickly intervened and stopped the man.

The police have confirmed the incident and said that since the issue has been resolved peacefully, and any further assistance is not required.
