Another book banned in Spore: Escape From Paradise

The full title is Escape from Paradise from Third World to First. Yes, the "Paradise" is Singapore. The "Third Wand" is also Singapore because even though Singapore has many of the features of a paradise on earth, it is still a third world country politically. The "First" stands for the United States which was, at the time, a first world country -- now that is in doubt.

i believe u mean "paradise" as an irony?? every foreigner tat visits/tour/ comes here thinks this is "paradise" but people who lived here long will know it it not ... tat's y so many want to emigrate out of this "paradise"

btw mr john harding: any updates on more "corruption"?? i hope u can dig more real evidence of corruption in this "paradise" and write a good book about it .... i suggest the title "FAKE paradise con the world ... " haha:biggrin:

You are right - I do mean "Paradise" as an irony. True that tourists think Singapore is a paradise, but Singaporeans know better. I may write more on Singapore, but for now, my comments are on www.yeocheowtong.com and www.johnharding.com. Thanks for asking.

Thank you for your comments and I for one do appreciate your presence. Many citizens simply care two hoots about what the PAP is doing as they are benefiting from the system plus they too have a fear of the government. There are also many who are very concerned and politically more aware of what is going on. The lack of transparency and the atmosphere of fear is very real as we can see from some recent events. We have people like you to thank for exposing their wrongdoings.

Escape From Paradise was more than 10 years ago. IIRC they tried to banned it but Kinokuniya ignored the attempted ban according to Japanese laws for branches operating overseas. They either had to evict and ban Kinokuniya from Singapore or let them sell the book. The ban then collapsed. They then quietly backed off with tails between their legs, some say cocks in their mouths.

I very much appreciate your comment. Thanks. It may be of no comfort to you, but a fear of government is not limited to Singapore. There is a great fear of government in the U.S. as well, although not quite so much as in Singapore - yet. The recent U.S. fiasco regarding the debt ceiling shows how bad we have become. Americans look down on Mexico, which, if you visit, looks a lot like Malaysia. Americans have impressive homes -which are heavily mortgaged, and nice cars on auto loans.

America has 9.4% unemployment, but Mexico (where people do own their homes by and large) has only 4.9% unemployment. Mexico is not bombing other countries. Gasoline in Mexico costs only $2.40 a gallon as opposed to $4.00 a gallon in the US. Recently, 300,000 Mexicans have fled from California to find there "American dream" in Mexico.

Singapore is not alone in being bad for its citizens.

There is a lot more that I am telling - about both Singapore and America. I do that in my blog at www.johnharding.com which has about 30,000 readers. To do so here, would be duplicating that effort, but you can find it all (including Kenneth Jeyaretnam drunk) on my blog. Thanks for asking.

I viewed your thread a long time ago and will pay the site another visit. I saw a google video "Orwell Turns In His Grave." I recommend this to all in this thread to watch the film produced 4 years ago but not publicised. If anyone wants a link I can copy/paste but googling the title will show many sites where one can watch or download. It is free. It is scary, really and this documentary tells us about the 4th estate and what Orwell wrote in his book "1984."

I'll take a look at your blog.
Would there be anything on just how much LKY is worth:confused:

I'm sure many Sporeans would like to know :o

Thanks - I have Orwell Turns In His Grave running now. Not a bad film, but the situation is now even worse.

John

How is the mrs and yourself of course. Got to take my figurative hat off to you in regard to your tenacity and sheer will power. I have never met a caucasian who made a small fortune milking so many gullible Singaporeans using a badly written book about his wife's divorce from her first husband. Can you imagine after so many years and in this forum, you manage to convince every new blurfuck that your book is about the politics of Singapore. Plugging Francis Seow book in your blog was a great marketing. The power of association is always a winning formula.By the way adding "from Third to First" to the recent edition to the original title is a masterstroke. Another association with our old man and his book. Just feel sorry for the poor sod who buys the book to find out it's about a gold digger trying to get her hands on the family fortune of her useless ex-husband.

Got to give it to your wife for being consistent about the choice of husbands. After making a fool of Singaporeans by being the first foreign Caucasian talent to be employed by our tax department, now taking advantage of the Arabs, I would suggest Africa. Believe me, they too can't tell the difference between a charlatan and a well educated and qualified individual.

John, if I may, could I suggest that you write a book about magnetic beds. Nothing fancy, just fictitious narrative about how your purchase of a magnetic bed cured your diabetes, impotence etc etc in conjunction with the dry Arizona climate gave you a new lease of life and now that you take part in the Boston Marathon annually should do the job. There are more blurfuck old foggies that will be bite at anything should not surprise you.By the way, we all learn from bad experiences. The expose on Temasek's short lived american CEO with a forged birth certificate conspiracy did not go the distance. On the Jeyaretnams, not sure if it works either. Don't let me down, I expect to see you for many more years in this forum, milking every newbie that comes our way.

So it's Scroobal, the jealous, kiasu Singaporean, again - the type so well known in Singapore - as a loser.

First off, the Mrs. and I are just fine, thank you. However, we have not made "a small fortune" on our book. Maybe we will on the movie, however.

"Badly written book?" that is far from what our reviews say.

Your statement that we added "from Third to First" to the recent edition is not so. That was the title from day one.

"Gold digger?" nothing has been received so far from family or "useless ex-husband." You happen to be right about the ex-husband whose reputation was so bad that he had to flee to Kuala Lumpur where he now hides out - something Scroobal might consider.

Thanks for the compliment regarding my stay as "the first foreign Caucasian talent to be employed by our tax department."

"Now taking advantage of the Arabs?" What Arabs? I haven't been in touch with any Arab for years. I was a university professor in Saudi Arabia, many years ago - not exactly a get-rich-quick position.

"The expose on Temasek's short lived american CEO with a forged birth certificate conspiracy did not go the distance?" Oh no? I was never challenged on that, and the post still gets a huge amount of hits. The guy has completely disappeared - so much for Temasek's selection process. They could not have done worse, unless, of course, they hired Scroobal.

Who is Scroobal, anyway, and why does he hide his identity?

Not so. Escape from Paradise has never been banned or even submitted to MDA - we have that on record. Kinokuniya was approached by a lawyer from Helen Yeo's office, Philip Jeyaretnam, who threatened them with a lawsuit if they did not remove the book from sale. Kinokuniya complied. I have it on tape. Other threats were made, and most other bookstores dropped the book - except for one, which has always carried Escape from Paradise.

Yeo Cheow Tong then approached NLB and had them remove the book.

Feeling the heat are you?Jealous ? Got to be kiding. Which man with a modicum of respectability will live off the sorry tale of his wife's adventures with her ex- husband and then misrepresent the book as a work on fighting autocracy with a change of title to boot. Professor in an Arab University - proves my point how gullible third world citizens are. In Singapore, you were a IT hack. The only thing worse is a professor in a university in India. Believe me, I too was taken in until I thumbed thru the book while oveseas. My sense is that if people actually took a glance of the content of the book in a bookstore, they would not buy it. Online sales is too a large a leap of faith and your misrepresentation does help with the sales. Explains why bookstores cannot keep book that can't sell as it takes valuable space. None of the respectable vets here ever paid a compliment about the book and I am sure none will ever admit buying it.
