"This year, Serangoon Division of the Aljunied Constituency Committee (AJCC) celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival at 2 locations, one at Chartwell Drive on the 29th September 2012 and the other on 30th September 2012 at Hwi Yoh Green park in front of Blk 116, Serangoon North Avenue 1.
It was a cool and beautiful night as Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied GRC, Ms Sylvia Lim, performed 2 songs with guitarist Desmond Moey. Dancers from 新舞风舞团 and wushu performers from Hua Yi Xuan (School of Martial Arts) also entertained the residents with their impressive dances and agile moves.
It was an evening of “Guess, Guess, Guess” as residents took turns to guess the weight of the mooncakes, flavor of the tea and answers to the numerous lantern riddles hung around the park.
As the evening drew to a close, 5 families participated in the “Peel the Pomelo” competition. The crowd cheered for the participants as they tried their best to peel the pomelos with their bare hands in the shortest possible time to form the Chinese character "月" ('Moon' in Chinese).
Children had a great time too, with the Lantern Procession around the park led by MP Ms Sylvia Lim. 3 children even won prizes with their creative home-designed lanterns as they showed off their prized lanterns on stage, to the applause of the crowd.
It was a great bonding time for neighbours, families and friends, and I am glad to know that residents enjoyed themselves"
