29.09.2012 - Mid Autumn Celebration 2012 (Paya Lebar Division)
Paya Lebar Division of Aljunied Constituency Committee celebrated Mid-Autumn last Saturday evening at the Maplewood Park near Blk 138 Lor Ah Soo.
Residents gathered to enjoy mooncakes and tea, and the children were happily playing with the traditional paper lanterns. The emcees kicked off the performances with a rendition of a mid-autumn favourite 望星空＋十五的月亮。Before leading residents on a simple walk around the park, Mr Chen introduced the Senior Mobility Fund (SMF) scheme that benefits residents who might need new aids like wheel chairs and walking frame.
The programme for the night carried on after the lantern parade. Adults were queuing up to try to crack the 30 lantern riddles while children were later thrilled by the magic show. A pomelo peeling competition saw two 'premiere league' boys quickly unskinning the pomelos, with the younger kids watching in awe. Adult helpers of the young kids then took to the stage for round 2 of the competition. Aside from peeling of pomelo, we had a talented volunteer who created fun characters from pomelos and the residents were asked to guess the weight of the bird and the pig.
The evening came to a nice end with a song item 月亮代表我的心 by the organising committee and volunteers, along with the MP, Mr Chen Show Mao.
