The driver of a prime mover and his two passengers were taken to hospital after the vehicle crashed in Jurong Town Hall Road last Thursday.
Driver Sivakumar Perumal, 43, who suffered injuries to his face and chest, died in hospital at about 7.50pm the same day.
In a twist to the fatal accident, one of the passengers, Saravanan Arimuram, 31, was charged yesterday with murdering the driver of the vehicle. The Sunday Times understands that he allegedly got into a fight with Mr Sivakumar while he was driving the vehicle.
In a statement on Friday, the police said they were informed about an accident in Jurong Town Hall Road towards the Ayer Rajah Expressway involving a prime mover at about 5.50pm.
Three Singaporean men, aged between 18 and 43, were then taken to the National University Hospital.
The police statement said: "Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident is believed to have resulted following a dispute between the deceased and the suspect."
Court papers did not indicate if Mr Sivakumar's injuries were caused by the accident or if they were inflicted before the crash.
Saravanan, who was dressed in a bright yellow tank-top with the words "Yellow Ribbon Project", kept his eyes closed as the charge was read out to him yesterday morning. He is being remanded in Central Police Division and will be back in court on Feb 23.
Saravanan will face the death penalty if convicted of murder.
The injured teenager has since been discharged from hospital.
