Whom did the two flat owners voted for??/ to get this kid of security for their homes??...your own house is not safe, where can it be safe?

Don't worry lah, Lee Hsien Loong said Jurong East will become the 'second CBD' with high speed rail to KL. Waterfront hotels at the Jurong Lake. Exciting times in a golden period.

Not SSB.....loan shark already got own dedicated task force....useless as usual.
I suspect this is a case of wrong address.
Granted ah long do harass debtor neighbours but only if debtor kena first and no response.
And setting fire is not easily done....cost to ah long is $500.....market price to activate a commando to set fire.

I don't think the commandos got it wrong. I believe it was a deliberate attempt to embarrass him and rile the neighbors enough to put pressure on him. This is a new tactic. They started with common areas, and Town Councils were called in to clean up the mess.

Now they go for neighbors!

The motive is to turn the neighbours on the debtor and use other people to exert psychological pressure. It should be quite a large amount owed.

That's the problem with staying in HDB. You die is your own biz. Every home owner should install monitoring system.

Alleged loanshark runner charged with setting fire to flat in Jurong East

By Elena Chong

SINGAPORE - A man was charged in court on Wednesday with causing annoyance to a house occupant by setting fire to his HDB flat for a loan taken by another resident.

No plea was taken from Mohamed Ashyik Mohamed Shawal, 31.

He is accused of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, known as Denzel, to torch a 12th-floor unit at Toh Guan Road in Jurong East by using flammable lighter fluid. He also wrote loanshark graffiti on the 12th-floor lift landing at 11.52pm on June 12.

The charge states that he caused annoyance to the house occupant in connection with an illegal loan taken by his neighbour on the 11th floor.

look like the loanshark had cross the line. somebody will have to come out answer. SSB will have to produce result for this case.

Back in the old days when LKY was the PM, whenever gangsters in any area got out of hand, all of them would be picked up, put under CLTP to rot in prison.

Currently the pappies see the ah longs as nothing more than unlicensed money lenders operating outside the law and not as organised crime or triads. Hence, the ah longs and their runners are not afraid. Going to prison is like taking a short term vacation.

The pappies if really serious in protecting the lives of innocent citizens should do what LKY had done. Apply the CLTP and lock up these ruffians for minimum 3 years, no discount for good behaviour but enhanced term for bad behaviour or exchange for early release with information for the mata mata to bring down the whole criminal network.

This latest case of setting fire is really serious. Next time, it might be a bomb. When the ruffians are beyond control, the pappies are responsible for their criminal behaviour.

You know pappies sayang these ah longs when setting fire becomes 'causing annoyance'.
Why not arson? Or even attempted murder?
Pappies going soft on real criminals but hard on Amos Yee

Setting fire to any dwelling where lives might be lost should be classified as attempted murder, not a simple case of mischief. With the large number of foreigners living in sinapor, when the pappies are seen as soft toys, these foreigners, whether loan sharks, their runners or the low life in Geylang would run wild to harm innocent law abiding residents.

The pappies need tougher guys to be the Minister for Home Affairs and Police Commissioner. When these two guys are softies, how to deal and cripple these ruffians?

just came back from Irrawaddy Rd. Boss Hoong was very furious. Culprit caught already.

Catching him is one thing but rapping his knuckle with a charge of causing annoyance is a big joke.

Are the mata mata and the pappies saying that the lives of those occupants were not endangered and they were only annoyed by the fire, and not traumatized to death by the fire?

What? And miss out on the kickbacks from the moneylending industry?

He was tracked down by police cameras mounted near the incident.

Ashyik was arrested on Monday in Toa Payoh. Cans of paint, bicycle chain locks and marker pens were seized.

He was remanded at Central Police Division for further investigation as he is believed to be involved in a series of similar incidents.

Ashyik's request to be sent to the Institute of Mental Health was turned down by District Judge Eddy Tham.

He will appear in court on June 24.

If convicted, he could be jailed for up to five years, fined up to $50,000 and given three to six strokes of the cane.
