if he really wants peasants to know, understand and support his ideals, he could ve easily published it in their website and let many read for free.

he mentioned about high cost of living here and priced his book by how much(?). isn't it contradictory?

many would like to know whether chee really has "foreign forces" backing. chee demands for transparency but he himself is cloaked in mystery.

Dear Porifirio

I believe the standard of comparison is between the wide availibility of the bible of SG politics errrrr " The Singapore Story" versus ur the alternative cannon errrrrr " A nation cheated". Thus the censorship.

Cheers

Locke

Ironically, the censoring of this book is adding to the problem

That is what CSJ/SDP said.

In any event whether bookstores carry it or not is a commercial matter. Has the government issued a directive? Is there a legal prohibition? CSJ/SDP themselves already admit that Kino and Select carry the book. I gather NLB is in the process of ordering the book. So where is the "censorship" as alleged by CSJ/SDP?

What censorship? Kinokuniya selling.

Anyway, The Singapore Story and From Third World To First are sitting pretty on my minilibrary bookshelf. Dr. Chee should try to get some hardcover editions out. Paperbacks aren't so impressive and decorative.

It is cheaper than LKY memoire, I hope "the nation cheated" can be presented to obama as gift.

Oh well...I guess we may get more objective alternatives when you know passes on:wink:

Btw I just came across another interesting read for those interested in PS critique on Singapore, however abit turgid for plain bed time reading:smile:

The Political Theory of Tyranny in Singapore and Burma: Aristotle and the Rhetoric of Benevolent Despotism
By: Stephen McCarthy

The Political Theory of Tyranny in Singapore and Burma: Aristotle and the Rhetoric of Benevolent Despotism

Browsing Options:

Covering various fields in political science, this new text presents a historical and political-cultural analysis of Buddhism and Confucianism.

Using Singapore and Burma as case studies, the book questions the basic assumptions of democratization theory, examining the political science of tyranny and exploring the rhetorical manipulation of religion for the purpose of political legitimacy.

A welcome addition to the political science and Asian studies literature, McCarthy addresses many of the currents that underlie the field of democratization in comparative politics and discusses the issue of imposing Western cultural bias in studying non-Western regimes by analyzing rhetorical traits that are universally regular in politics.

maybe the "foreign force" way of paying to chee. a delusion to tell people that chee's books are "selling" very well and in a way can leegally finance chee.

or maybe chee asks his followers to buy the books. if chee really wants peasants to know and learn from his agenda, he could have publicised it in the internet to allow a bigger viewership. as a new "messiah", he should be spreading his belief instead of profiting from it. anyway, earnings from the sale, ain't it suppose to go to the gabramen??

That is good. CSJ is "luckier" in this sense  From what I know, bookstores rejected carrying the WP's 50th anniversary magazine.

I find this type of behaviour strange and curious in this day and age. Before NLB would probably never carry any titles that were highly critical of LKY and PAP written in a coherent rational compelling manner. However nowadays I note that NLB seems to carry almost all if not all titles including chee's works; francis seow's works; the 'slapper' book etc. That being the case I would think it makes no sense for the commercial bookstores not to carry these titles unless they find it is of no commercial value to them. You see the net appears to have changed everything that and PAP government's desire to turn S'pore into one of the world's most liveable cities attracting creative innovative talent from all over the world which means it then has to open up more.

That is good. CSJ is "luckier" in this sense  From what I know, bookstores rejected carrying the WP's 50th anniversary magazine.
