The crowd decked in red, green and yellow easily surpassed the 60000 that packed the Han Chiang school field in 2008.

They chanted “Ubah” and “Tolak Barisan” with much gusto. It was not a time for eloquent rhetoric. Besides the vuvuzelas drowned out much of the politicians’ speeches.

The people have made up their minds.
This wasn’t about the people calling for tunnels, new highways and more high-rise luxury condos; it was the about the people calling for an end to corruption in the country and for political change at the federal level.

It was clear that the people who turned up at Han Chiang want to reclaim power from those in Putrajaya who have betrayed their trust in Putrajaya. They want change. (But first, a few of them also have to change themselves as they inconsiderately parked along the two-lane main road i.e. Jalan Masjid Negeri, reducing traffic flow to one lane and creating a massive traffic jam, as two lanes of traffic from Scotland Road and one lane of traffic from Dato Keramat tried to squeeze through that one free lane.)
But there was no mistaking the people’s choice: they are putting their faith in Pakatan politicians to ensure clean government and improve the people’s quality of life. The Pakatan politicians have a heavy responsibility to live up to the people’s trust.

IF WE CAN'T DO GREAT THING, DO SMALL THING IN GREAT WAY.
PLEASE GO BACK TO VOTE.

Verse 1
Verse 2
Chorus 1
Chorus 2

Verse 1:
Who built these high walls that darkens the world
Who caused us to become cold towards one another
Who suffocated this nation with so many others
Who pushed us to keep on tolerating the intolerable

Verse2:
Who distorted justice beyond imagination
Who failed each of these weary faces
Who destroyed the hopes of our next generation
Who can really protect this land

Chorus 1:
Do not despair under the dark sky, listen to your heart
Be courageous, paint your first light of dawn
A small push can initiate falling rows of dominoes
Like a spark that lights up the darkness

Chorus2:
Grab your friends, let's greet the dawn of a new era
Persevere, march on to a new chapter of leadership
This tug of war will help us grow
Perhaps we are at the last hurdle of a better tomorrow
A tomorrow with our heads held high

Anwar also asked for Reformasi. Look at Indon. Past 16 years since the late Suharto stepped down. Any huge improvement? Look at the Rupiahs, corruptions, jobless rate on the increase. Whos the loser?

Gelang Patah: The crowd that has thronged the Pakatan Rakyat ceramah in Skudai has ballooned to 70,000.

Speaking to the crowd, Pakatan supremo Anwar Ibrahim urges all voters to support opposition candidates, in particular DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, to prove former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad wrong.

"I make no apologise. With respect to all Malaysians, his name maybe Lim Kit Siang, but he is man of principle. I salute him.

"Mahathir said let’s bury him in Gelang Patah and bury Anwar in Permatang Pauh.

"But Mahathir, I'm not Najib (Abdul Razak) that has no courage to rebut you."

Johor Bahru: Some 10,000 people attend a Pakatan Rakyat ceramah held at a market site beside Tan Sri Dato Haji Hassan Yunos stadium, in which PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng are slated to speak.

Despite the ceramah site being dark and stuffy, with rough tarred floor, the crowd has no qualms and sit on the floor as they follow the speeches.

The order is, however, temporarily halted as a woman screams when a mouse ran across from where she sits.

10.30pm - Sibu: The DAP ceramah held near Sibu bus terminal attracts up to 5,000 people.

During the ceramah, party deputy chairperson Tan Seng Giaw campaigned for Lanang candidate Alice Lau and Sibu candidate Oscar Ling.

Tan said BN was scared of losing power as it knew nothing about the role of the opposition, and joked that Pakatan will offer the former a free course so they can take up the lesson.

Tan also told the crowd that Pakatan plans to build more prisons to accommodate BN members convicted of cheating and corruption, soliciting big applauds from the crowd.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak United People's Party ceremah attracted a much more humble crowd of 700.

Gerakan stalwart backs Hadi's May 13 stand

A Gerakan veteran emerged today to back PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who accused Umno of masterminding the May 13 racial riots in 1969.

Hadi told a political rally in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, on Monday that the bloody racial riots 44 years ago were orchestrated by Umno to cling on to power.

7873aad69f651624600cdff4c2e26db7.jpg
"May 13 was not an ethnic phenomenon. It was a political occurrence," former Gerakan leader Goh Cheng Teik told Malaysiakini.

"Only those who were members of Umno or associated with it were involved. PAS members had nothing to do with May 13."

Goh, 70, who served as a deputy minister and a Penang executive councillor 25 years, had done extensive research on the riots when he was a lecturer at Universiti Malaya and published a book, ‘The May Thirteenth Incident and Democracy in Malaysia', in 1971.

He joined politics three years later and was appointed parliamentary secretary to then prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein.

According to Goh, the riots in Kuala Lumpur started even before the counter-procession was held by Umno in response to opposition victory marches in the wake of the unprecedented gains by PAS, DAP and Gerakan in the 1969 general election.

"Members, supporters and well-wishers of a ruling party that prides itself in upholding the rule of law rioted before the start of a ‘victory' procession in front of the official residence of the state chief minister," he said.

A day of shame and sorrow

Goh still believes there was no need for the nationwide declaration of the State of Emergency as the violence was localised, much like the recent militant incursion into Lahad Datu in Sabah, and argued that the riots were mostly politically-driven.

d6aa8ab58b77929fabdb8a966ebec2e9.jpg
"That is why the disturbances were not national in character, according to (then prime minister) Tunku Abdul Rahman, but virtually confined to Kuala Lumpur.

"No serious breach of the peace or act of violence took place in any other part of Peninsular Malaysia on or after May 13."

The declaration of Emergency paved the way for the suspension of Parliament.

Goh, who holds the distinction of being Malaysia's first Harvard scholar, is currently an adjunct professor with Sunway University.

Asked why he was speaking out on the issue now, he said young people today should know the truth behind May 13, an issue repeatedly raised in the ongoing campaign for Sunday's general election.

"May 13 was not a day of glory for Malaysians. It was a day of shame and sorrow," lamented Goh.

[h=1]We’ve won, claims Anwar[/h] Anwar Ibrahim asks Umno and the Election Commission to accept the people's decision.

PETALING JAYA: Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim claimed that Pakatan Rakyat has won the 13th general election. “Pakatan has won. We urge Umno and the Election Commission [EC] not to attempt to hijack the results,” said Anwar on his microblogging site, Twitter at about 7pm.

An aide of Anwar said that the Twitter message was not the job of hackers and it came from Anwar himself.
He said that when he contacted Anwar the opposition leader said that it was his genuine Twitter message.

Later, the Prime Minister’s Office stressed the need to wait for official results.
“People decide elections, not politicians. We must all wait for the official election results to be announced by the EC,” said PMO via Twitter.
