"Stars on 45" is a song issued in December 1979 by the studio group Stars on 45. In some countries including UK, Ireland and New Zealand the band was credited as 'Starsound' and the medley itself was named "Stars on 45". Its official title in the US (as on the record and in Billboard) where it was credited to 'Stars on 45' was "Medley: Intro Venus / Sugar Sugar / No Reply / I'll Be Back / Drive My Car / Do You Want to Know a Secret / We Can Work It Out / I Should Have Known Better / Nowhere Man / You're Going to Lose That Girl / Stars on 45."
It reached #1 in the Netherlands in December 27, 1979, #2 in the UK in April 1980 and #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 20, 1981. In the US, the single also peaked at number 18 on the dance chart. It is (to date) the longest titled song to ever chart in Billboard, and is usually known by the shorter nickname, "Stars on 45 Medley", or "'Medley' by Stars on 45." The reason for the long title was copyright requirements for the use of The Beatles' songs. In the U.S. the song's one-week stay at the top interrupted the Kim Carnes single "Bette Davis Eyes" run as the #1 single at five weeks. The next week, Carnes' song regained its #1 status for an additional four weeks.

Runaround Sue" is a pop song, originally a US No. 1 hit for the singer Dion during 1961 after he split with the Belmonts. The song ranked No. 342 on the Rolling Stone list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". It tells the story of a disloyal lover.

In 1980, English group Racey released a cover version which reached number 13 on the UK charts. Gary Glitter also covered the song on C'mon... C'mon The Gary Glitter Party Album (1997).

"After the Lovin'" is a successful song from 1976, performed by singer Engelbert Humperdinck. It was written by Ritchie Adams with lyrics by Alan Bernstein. The single was a top-ten hit in late 1976/early 1977 in the U.S., reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, number forty on the country singles chart, and spending two weeks atop the easy listening chart. "After the Lovin'" failed to chart in the UK Singles Chart, despite Humperdinck's earlier successes.

"Lost in Love" is a 1980 song recorded by the Australian soft rock group Air Supply. The song was written by group member Graham Russell. The original version of the song appeared on the Life Support album in 1979 and was released as single in Australia, reaching #13 on the Kent Music Report. The group re-recorded the song for the album Lost In Love in 1980 and this version was released as a single in the US reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Air Supply's popularity in their native country during the mid to late 1970s had not been matched elsewhere. Russell travelled to England in 1979, and while there, discovered that the group's Australian record label Big Time Records had sold "Lost in Love" to Arista Records in the United States for distribution. Soon thereafter, their song became a hit on the music charts in the U.S. The song spent four weeks at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 1980 and topped the Billboard adult contemporary chart for six weeks that same year.

"You're Only Lonely" is a 1979 single by J. D. Souther from his album of the same name. The single peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, Souther's only top ten pop hit, and spent five weeks at number one on the Adult Contemporary chart.
Souther hired Danny Kortchmar to play guitar, David Sanborn on saxophone, Phil Everly to help out with the harmony, Jackson Browne and three members of The Eagles.
The song was covered in 2004 by Taiwanese girl group S.H.E in their album Magical Journey. It was covered by singer-songwriter Schuyler Fisk on her album The Good Stuff.

Hooked on Classics was a series of record albums first introduced in 1981, toward the end of the disco era's peak in popularity. The series was disliked by many classical music purists, not least because of the background beat, but had the positive effect of reviving interest in classical music among a new generation. However, interest and sales waned after the initial album.
Louis Clark, former arranger for Electric Light Orchestra, conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing a collection of very recognizable extracts from classical music pieces played over a continuous beat (sometimes an overtly disco fast beat, sometimes a slower and more subtle rhythm, always produced by a LinnDrum) that linked the segments together. This is called the Symphonic Rock or Orchestrated Rock genre, like London Symphony Orchestra did in its Classic Rock series but with fewer electronic effects.
The first three albums in the series were a significant commercial success. Hooked on Classics peaked at number 4 on the U.S. Billboard albums chart, remaining on the chart for 68 weeks. It was certified platinum. Hooked on Classics II peaked at number 33, staying for 41 weeks. It was certified gold. Hooked on Classics III reached number 89, and was on the charts for 14 weeks.
The first cut of the initial album was a very successful single, reaching Number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and Number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late-1981/early-1982. At least two more "Hooked on Classics" albums were produced by Louis Clark in 1982 and 1983, as well as some other "Hooked on..." albums on subjects such as swing music. The series was still running as late as 1988, when "Hooked on House" placed classical music extracts against a synthesized bassline and house-music-style drum pattern. In 1989, the orchestra released Mixed-Up Classics, dropping the Hooked On... name but recognizably continuing the same style of medley.
Contemporary efforts to combine classical music with contemporary arrangements included efforts by composers such as Walter Murphy, Eumir Deodato and Waldo de los Ríos.
In 2011 Hooked On Classics was brought back 'live' to the stage at the Bournemouth International Centre by ex Hooked player Andy Smith to celebrate 30 years of this album series. Louis Clark conducted the English Pops Orchestra, featuring many of the players who recorded on the original albums.
