7 suspects arrested for rioting in Pasir Ris

SINGAPORE: Seven male suspects who are believed to have assaulted three male youths in the vicinity of Pasir Ris Interchange, have been arrested by the police.

Police caught the seven, aged between 18 and 24 years, on Tuesday.

They are believed to be behind the assault, which occurred at about 8.30pm on September 16.

Police on Wednesday said early investigations found that the riot broke out due to a minor dispute.

Six of the suspects will be charged in court on Thursday with rioting.

If convicted, each suspect will face a jail sentence of up to seven years and caning.

Investigation into the remaining suspect is still ongoing.

Police arrested 14 men on Tuesday, in connection with two separated cases of rioting.

The first case involved seven suspects, aged between 21 and 40, who had allegedly attacked a man along Raffles Avenue on Tuesday at about 5am.

The victim had injuries to his face, said the police.

A second group of seven men was also nabbed for a similar case involving three victims, who were attacked at about 8.30pm on Sep 16 at Pasir Ris interchange.
