6 arrested for loansharking

SIX suspects have been arrested for involvement in loansharking activities in two seperate cases. The suspects, aged between 15 and 47 years, were caught on Monday. Four were nabbed in the vicinity of Yishun, Hougang and Sim Lim Square where several handphones, and pieces of paper believed to contain debtors' record were seized.
In a seperate case, two men, who were spotted behaving suspiciously around Hougang Avenue 1, were arrested. A handphone with suspected debtors' records were found on them. All six will be changed in court on Wednesday. First-offenders face a fine from $30,000 to $300,000, as well as jail of up to four years and caning of up to six strokes.
Offenders who are 21 years old or above, who cause any person below the age of 16 years old to commit acts of harrassment faces a jail term of between two and nine years and a fine of between $6,000 and o $60,000, and may be caned up to 12 strokes.
