Hamzah Hambali, 29, who has a record of past offences, molested a teenage girl and was sentenced to five years' corrective training and three strokes of the cane on Tuesday.
After midnight on May 2 last year, Hamzah followed the 17-year-old girl into a lift at an HDB block at Ubi Avenue 1.
But just as she was about to get out of the lift, he pulled at her by her hair and then touched her breast.
She screamed out.
But Hamzah did not stop. He went on with what he was doing. He grabbed hold of her from the waist and started to kiss her.
He also pushed her onto the ground.
She had to go to hospital later to get checked. There were bruises on her arm and when pressure was applied to her chest, she could feel pain.
Closed circuit camera footage also showed that he had indeed followed her into the lift and then pushed her.
Hamzah claimed that he had only wanted to push her.

But after a trial of one and a half days, he was convicted.
District Judge Liew Thiam Leng sentenced him to five years' corrective training and three strokes of the cane.
His past offences, going as far back as 1999, were also taken into consideration.
Hamzah had been convicted of vandalism, housebreaking and voluntarily causing hurt and has been placed in a juvenile home, jailed and caned.
Unlike a jail sentence, corrective training is for repeat offenders and there is no remission even for good behaviour.
Hamzah could have been jailed for between two and 10 years, and caned for outraging his victim's modesty and restraining her in the process.
