The police said on Wednesday that three men aged between 22 and 26 have been arrested for suspected impersonation as public servants at Lorong 16 Geylang.

The police received a call for assistance on Aug 11 and learnt that the men had approached four victims while identifying themselves as police officers.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects conducted a check on the victims' belongings before fleeing with one of the victim's cash.

After extensive ground enquiry, police officers established the suspects' identities and arrested them. The stolen cash was also recovered and seized.

If found guilty of Personating as a Public Servant, the suspects will face a jail term of up to two years, or a fine or both. If convicted of Theft of Cash with common intention, they will face a jail term of up to three years, or fine, or both.

Members of the public should request for the Police Officer's Warrant Card to verify his identity before complying with the instructions of the officer. Those who are still unsure of a person's credibility as a Police officer should call 999 for assistance.
